CMC Is Liberia’s Youngest Political Party -Certificated Today After Meeting all NEC Guidelines

MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) is today formally certificating the proposed Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) as a registered political party in Liberia.

The program is slated to be held in the Small Conference Room of the Commission at 2:00 p.m.

In a communication dated March 4, 2025 and addressed to proposed CMC Chairman James M.V. Yougie, NEC Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah noted that the CMC has met the requirements of Article 79 of the Constitution of Liberia Chapter II, Subchapter A and B as well as Chapter III, Subchapter B of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties and Independent Candidates to be registered as a political party in Liberia.

“In view thereof, the Commission will issue a certificate of accreditation to the proposed Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) on Friday, 7 March 2025, in the Small Conference Room of the Commission at 2:00 pm. The NEC therefore invites the Executive Committee and members of the proposed CMC to the ceremony,” Commissioner Lansanah said.

It can be recalled that on Friday, March 28, 2025, the proposed Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) held its first-ever convention in Saclepea, Nimba County where Nimba County District #7 Representative Musa Hassan Bility got elected on a white ballot along with Mr. James M.V. Yogee who got elected as Chairman, and Mr. Wilfred Bangura as secretary General, all on a white ballot. The convention was graced by a Who’s Who array of prominent opposition figures who showed up to support the CMC on its new political journey.

Addressing the delegates and the audience, newly inducted Political Leader Bility said the CMC is a people-focused political party that is here to make the difference, not an election-time political institution that has come for mere posturing.

“Today is not just another day. Today is the beginning of something new. Today, we gather not just to form another political party, not just to add another name to the long list of parties that come and go with election cycles. Today, we launch a movement—one that belongs to the people, one that will stand with the people every single day, whether in government or in opposition.

“For 30 years, I have walked the path of politics, fighting to make things right, pushing for a better Liberia, trying to convince those in power to lead with vision and responsibility. I have given my time, my energy, my ideas, and my heart to this country. But I have come to realize that true change cannot come from the top unless the people own it, demand it, and drive it forward themselves. That is why we are here today,” CMC Political Leader and Nimba County District #7 Representative Musa Hassan Bility said.

“For too long, Liberia’s economy has been structured for the benefit of a few while the majority struggle to survive. Our resources are abundant, yet our people remain poor. Our country is rich in natural wealth, yet our hospitals, schools, and roads are in decay,” Bility lamented, but said he remains hopeful that under a CMC leadership Liberia will see better days.
