MONROVIA: The People’s Republic of China has initiated an assistance to enhance the communication infrastructure of the country by handing over solar energy power project to the communication infrastructure of the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications at a ceremony held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
According to information on the project, its implementation will provide a stable and reliable, clean and green power supply for central office as well as other post offices in 8 counties in Liberia. The counties to benefit include, Montserrado, Bomi, Magibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, and Grand Bassa.
The program was graced by Mr. Sekou M. Kromah, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Augustine S. Karpeh, Deputy Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mr. Paul W. Thomas, Director General of Posts, Nathaniel T. Kwabo, Director General of the Cabinet, and other distinguished officials and media representatives.Also in attendance were representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, headed by Amb. Yin Chengwu.
Officially turning over the equipment to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, Chinese Ambassador H.E. YIN Chengwu firstly congratulated the government and people of Liberia on acquiring the project and termed the initiative as a boost for Liberia local communication infrastructure
He said the solar power project is an important achievement of practical cooperation between China and Liberia, adding that the implementation of the project will provide a stable and reliable, clean and green power supply for central office as well as other 8 county post offices in Liberia, such as Montserrado, Bomi, Magibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, etc., and improve local communication infrastructure conditions, as well as help Liberia’s economic and social development
The Chinese envoy assured that his government will continue to work with the Liberian government and people to strive for greater development of practical cooperation in all fields between the two countries and make positive contributions to building a China-Liberia community with a shared future.
“China and Liberia are good friends, good partners, and good brothers. Under the strong leadership and strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Boakai, China-Liberia relation is ushering in a new stage. As always, China will continue pursuing the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in China-Liberia relations, and jointly promote fruitful results in China-Liberia friendly, pragmatic and win-win cooperation” Amb. Yin concluded.
Receiving the solar power equipment, the Minister of Post and Telecommunication Minister, Sekou M. Kromah, expressed excitement and appreciation to the People’s Republic of China’s through its Ambassador to Liberia, as he stated the impact China has made on Liberia’s developmental infrastructure drive is too many and the citizens are grateful.
The MoPT boss mentioned that before he became Minister, he was aware of the development china has carried out to the Ministry in terms of capacity building.
“We currently have two assistant Ministers who obtained their Master’s degrees from china. We look forward to more benefits from the Chinese government. Finally, I want to thank the Chinese government on behalf of the president of Liberia, Joseph N Boakai who is excited of the hand over solar donation”, he added.
