Capturing 15 Years of UN Women in Liberia -Compelling Photo Exhibition Showcases Journey Through the Lens
MONROVIA – On Friday night, July 18, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection hosted a commemorative event at the EJS Ministerial Complex, featuring a compelling photographic exhibition that chronicles 15 years of women’s rights advocacy in celebration of UN Women’s milestone anniversary.
The exhibition showcased the faces, moments, and milestones that define UN Women’s impact across Liberia since its founding at UN Headquarters in New York in July 2010.
From rural communities to government halls, the powerful images captured stories of women breaking barriers, communities healing, and a nation advancing toward gender equality.
Held under the theme, “Young Enough to Transform, Old Enough to Deliver” this year’s event comes alive through a variety of photographs that document UN Women’s evolution from a young organization with bold dreams to a trusted partner delivering real results for Liberian women and girls.
According to a press release, the inaugural ceremony welcomed Dr. Maxime Houinato, UN Women’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa, who joined the celebration as a special guest.
The evening program brought together an inspiring cross-section of Liberian society – government leaders, UN partners, grassroots women’s organizations, dynamic youth groups, and rural women whose lives have been transformed through UN Women’s programs.
A Visual Testament to Partnership
The exhibition showcased UN Women’s core activities and strategic collaborations that have shaped gender equality progress in Liberia. Visitors will witness the organization’s journey through intimate portraits of women leaders, powerful moments from peace-building initiatives, and scenes of economic empowerment transforming communities nationwide.
Over the past 15 years, UN Women Liberia has emerged as more than an organization – it has become a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change.
The exhibition captured pivotal moments in the fight to end violence against women and girls, expand women’s roles in peace and security, champion women’s political leadership, and unlock economic opportunities across the country.
Moving Forward, Building Legacy
Following its debut at the EJS Ministerial Complex, the exhibition will now be relocated to the One UN House on Tubman Boulevard, the release said.
“As UN Women celebrates this milestone, the organization reaffirms its commitment to Liberia’s development trajectory. The photographs tell a story of partnership, resilience, and unwavering dedication to a future where every woman and girl can thrive,” the release further said.
UN Women is the United Nations entity for gender equality and women’s empowerment, working to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, empower women, and achieve equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security.
