The meeting provided an opportunity for Justice Brumskine to highlight the importance of cooperation among ECOWAS institutions, particularly in promoting transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.

Such cooperation, she noted, is essential to building strong institutions and advancing the goals of regional integration.
A Historic Moment for Liberia
The visit also reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that ECOWAS institutions operate with integrity, accountability, and respect for the rules and regulations that guide their work. Justice Brumskine’s leadership at the Court marks an important moment for Liberia.
She was elected President by her fellow judges on October 13, 2026, after being sworn in as one of five newly appointed judges of the Court on October 6, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria. She succeeded Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves of Cape Verde, making history as the first Liberian to head the regional judicial institution.
Since taking over the leadership of the Court, her role has placed her at the center of efforts to strengthen the institution’s judicial work, promote independence, and ensure that justice remains accessible to citizens and institutions across the ECOWAS region.
Her meeting with the Auditor General further highlights the importance of building strong working relationships among regional institutions, particularly at a time when transparency, good governance, and accountability remain essential to public confidence and regional development.
