The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has concluded its 4th National Convention, under the theme: “A Real Alternative for Liberia”, bringing together delegates, partisans, and supporters from both in out of Liberia under one roof to promote peace, reconciliation, and progress and elected leaders to stirs the affairs of the party.
Prior to that, the party reviewed, concluded and adopted the constitution in the presence of observers.
In a special statement, Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings said the ANC is more than just a political party, but “we are the real alternative and the answer for all Liberians; a Party where everybody is somebody”. He added: We stand ready to end the failures of the past and present by delivering good governance and sustainable economic growth focused on job creation.”
The ANC Political Leader reminded partisans that they have works to do that “we have to sacrifice if we want to reduce the suffering of the Liberian people”.
“Most Liberian goes to bed hungry, most Liberian struggle to send their children to school, most Liberian struggle to pay their rent, and god forbid when many Liberian get sick, they don’t have access to medical care, it is for those Liberians that we are fighting for,” Mr Cummings noted. “We are fighting to reduce the inequality in our country where few people benefit from the natural resources of Liberia, and the majority of Liberians suffered, Liberia is too rich for people to be so poor.”
He said Liberia needs leaders who can manage the economy of our country, leaders who can create jobs.
He continued: “We graduate many young people from universities and there is no job for them to do. What we offered our fellow Liberians is somebody who understand how to create jobs, understand how attracts foreign direct investments, who understand the economic environment requirement for Liberian businesses to succeed.”
The ANC Political Leader asserted further: We will grow the economy or our economic ‘bowl of rice’ and ensure that every Liberian has the right to put their hand in the expanded “bowl of rice” without discrimination.

“To deliver this future, we need an energized party. Every Partisan must believe we can win if we do the work and must be willing to do the work and make sacrifices,” he stressed.
The ruling Unity Party Chairman Rev. Luthur Tarpeh said, his presence as the national chairman of the Unity Party is a clear testimony of “our deep-seated values as a political institution that the democratic tenants and values of Liberia must thrive in a post war situation.
According to him, Liberia, in time past, could not withstand or entertain opposing or critical voices against the sitting government.
“Opposition leaders were compared and were intimidated, chased out of the country, and were deprived of their rights to say or to have a say in a forward march of the country,” he asserted.
The Unity Party Chairman Trapeh noted that those dark days of oppressing opposing views are over, and never again should nation return to such grooming days.
“I can assure you, under the Unity Party led government, your voice will be recognized and there will be no intimidation for any opposition,” he said.
He noted: “In this dispensation we must all work assiduously to convince the world that Liberia and Liberians are determined to advance and promote political harmony and tolerance. Despite the names of our political institutions, the different colours of our respective active flags, and a vision of how we think the country should move forward, let us all not forget we are all Liberians, and we as political actors must only think and plan how to make Liberia better.”
Also speaking was the ANC’s Global Chairman, Emmanuel G. K. George. He said: “Within a remarkable year, we triumphantly secured our first senatorial seat, as the late Chairman Daniel Naathen of Gbarpolu County became our inaugural Senator. We have made notable strides in presidential elections and garnered significant representation in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Yet, we acknowledge that our works far from over.”
George said the current state of the Liberian nation underscores the imperative of “our mission”. According to him, Liberians are grappling with “soaring costs of living, inaccessible education, unrelenting insecurity and the growing drugs crisis tearing through our communities, devastating our youth, and threatening the very fabric of our future.”
He intimated that it is in these trying times that the Alternative National Congress must rise as a beacon of hope.
“As we convene in the historic city of Kakata, Margibi County, this weekend, let us depart from this convention revitalized and united,” George also asserted.
Giving the overview, the Convention Chairman Mr. Patrick Younwin Moore said, the gathering was to “embrace and recalibrate our political spirits and wellbeing for the transformation of our party and country, where our Constitution and laws will be respected for the protection of all Liberians and those residing within our borders when we take over the state as a government”.
Continuing, he said: “We should elect those who understand that taking state power will require a significant amount of work and sacrifice.”
According to him, state power is never given, but must be taken through hard work and sacrifice.
“We should elect those who have demonstrated skills and experience for the role they aspire to occupy, and who are leaders and have influence in their communities, religions, professional organizations,” he cautioned. “As you assess and determine who to support for leadership roles during this Convention, we should keep the above criteria in mind and only support people who meet them.”
