The Association of Evangelicals of Liberia (AEL) has launched massive sensitization awareness campaign in Jorquelleh, Zota and Pant Districts, as part of efforts to combat the deadly Coronavirus disease in Liberia.
The largest network of Christian churches and agencies of Evangelical persuasions in Liberia, the AEL is has been responding to human needs with spiritual guidance, compassion, and practical care.
Operation of the Association of Evangelicals of Liberia dates back to 1964 when visiting American Assembly of God Evangelist, Paul Olson, motivated Christians in Liberia to unite and evangelize to the country in obedience to Jesus Christ’s Great Commission.
AEL has since been a Christian organization working in 52 communities in the three districts to help provide safe drinking water, latrine facilities in Bong County. With support from Mission Alliance, AEL is also distributing little over hundred-barrel size buckets and soap respectively.
Speaking during the official launching of the awareness campaign in Belefani, the Program Officer of the AEL, Deacon Francis Maxwell encouraged citizens to stick to the preventive measures approved by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health.
Deacon Maxwell said the virus is more deadly than Ebola that killed thousands of people in Liberia; maintaining that the only way one can stay safe is to put to practice every measure that fights the virus.
Also speaking at the launched of the program, an Official of the Bong County Health Team, Young Paegar said handwashing is the first step in battling the Coronavirus.
Mr. Paegar told the citizens to help extend the message across to make others to understand the effect of the virus, which continues to kill people globally.
“We want you to firstly know that it is good to wash your hands every time; this is about your life and the lives of your relatives, so it is up to you to take it very seriously” he adds.
For their part, a resident of Belefani Town, Ezekiel Youwagbian and Jorquelleh District #3 Commissioner Washington Bonnah extended thanks to AEL and promised to abide by all the health protocols.
