A Statement by Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

October 6, 2023

Fellow citizens, as we approach another historic event in our country – the exercise of the Constitutional right of choice, I consider it a duty to join others in adding my voice.

Our nation has been blessed by God with an endowment which provides the means for development.  We have made progress in the achievement of development goals, but some have, from time-to-time, undermined progress in that achievement.

But Through It All, Peace Has Been the Enabler.   As is said in Vai, “Komu-moi lor nei awa mu k nyain”.

I, therefore, thank all citizens, individuals and groups, for the contribution made to National peace that has made us proud of the 20 consecutive years of peace.

I also thank the large number of continental, international and local organizations that will serve as Elections Observer ensuring that our electoral processes meet international standards.

We now have the opportunity to ensure through vote that growth and inclusive development can be sustained.

May you be guided by God and conscience, as you examine the performance record and the potential of those who seek your vote. I pray that you choose those who can and will ensure a Better Liberia and the Africa That We Want.

Brainwashed peace by the very one or gang that waged the war, carried out the MASSIVE KILLING OF THE INNOCENT, and took the country a hundred years backward FOR SELFISH AND VAIN DESIRES, IS NO PEACE. PEOPLE ARE NOT STUPID. We remember the November 12, 1985 very stupid and bloody invasion. We remember those who fomented, financed, incited, instigated the December 24, 1989 war and those who waged that war. So, for these same people to come and display their CROCODILE CALL FOR PEACE AFTER CARRYING OUT THEIR VAIN QUEST FOR POWER AT THE COST OF THE MASSIVE KILLING OF THE INNOCENT, IS AND INSULT.
