UMC‘s Attention Drawn to fraudulent scheme

MONROVIA – The attention of the Education Department of the Liberia Annual Conference (LAC) of the United Methodist Church (UMC) has been drawn to a being orchestrated by a previously unknown sect. This group is falsely claiming to operate the Everlyn S. Chapman United Methodist School in the New Georgia Housing Estate by issuing graduation certificates and report cards, even though it has provided no learning or instructional services to the students.

The Office of the Bishop, as well as the Ministry of Education Republic of Liberia, have been duly informed. It must be noted that only the official UMC administration of the Everlyn S. Chapman United Methodist School in the New Georgia Housing Estate is authorized to issue valid UMC report cards.

It can be recalled that this sect, identifying itself as the Global Methodist Church (GMC), had earlier attempted to forcefully seize and vandalize the Everlyn S. Chapman United Methodist School in the New Georgia Housing Estate and the church edifice. In response to mounting violence and repeated attempts to unlawfully seize UMC properties, the

LAC/UMC petitioned the Civil Law Court. The Court has since declared the Liberia Annual Conference of the UMC the rightful owner of all its properties in Liberia.

As part of its ongoing deception, the GMC sect continues to mislead its members, claiming that it has requested the presiding judge to recuse himself and rescind his ruling and that it has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court. This narrative has fueled further acts of lawlessness, including attempts to seize churches, health centers, and educational facilities that serve not only UMC members but also the broader Liberian public.

It can also be recalled that the GMC recently staged a forceful takeover of the Weala Clinic in Margibi County. Such actions are provocative and constitute clear violations of the rule of law.

The GMC cult and its leadership are fraudulently falsifying and changing the names of legitimate institutions such as UMC clinics and schools. We therefore call on the relevant authorities, including the Liberia Medical and Dental Council, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and other institutions—along with the general public to note that the United Methodist Church in Liberia has not changed the names of any of its institutions, including  the Everlyn S. Chapman United Methodist School in the New Georgia Housing Estate.

The UMC warns parents, sponsors, and guardians to remain vigilant and avoid accepting school credentials that are not authorized by the Ministry of Education and the United Methodist School System, as doing so could jeopardize their children’s educational future and prevent them from gaining admission to other universities.
