MONROVIA – Despite being one of Liberia’s youngest political institutions, the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) is making strategic inroads to consolidate its base nationwide and win over souls by preaching a political gospel unbeknown to Liberians for ages. In the words of CMC Political Leader Musa Hassan Bility himself, the CMC will be intentionally unusual in its politicking by delivering on all of its promises made to the electorates far ahead of national elections.

“So, the people who are coming to promise you, when they come to you, as a country you are tired my people. You are tired with people coming to you all the time. No CMC candidate in the Republic of Liberia, including the presidential candidate, will make promises for elections. We will do everything we say, and then we say, let’s go to election,” Political Leader Bility stated emphatically to thunderous applause from the Grand Bassa County District #1 CMC partisans and sympathizers who thronged the Youth Development Center as Mr. Bility rolled out his party’s plans for the Bassa Belt which includes Margibi, River Cess and Grand Bassa Counties.

Flanked by his party officials, PL Bility thanked the National Chairman of the CMC, the Vice Chair for Finance, the party’s Women Congress Chair, as well as the CMC Chairlady for Auxiliary who is also a citizen of District #1, Madam Binta Bility.

“We want to thank all of you. Today we come back to Grand Bassa to do the thing that we wished we would have done ever since if we were given the chance to do it. And we are happy that we have the chance. You know, most of you here are young people. But when Liberia was founded, Grand Bassa was among the few original counties that was founded. So, just think about that time, when you grandfather was not even born, and look at the condition of your county. It is still the same. CMC is here to change that.

“We want to tell the people of District #1 that the CMC has placed our mission and vision for Grand Bassa County in your hand. We have taken your son and put him in charge of Grand Bassa County. And we have taken your daughter, who I can assure you will be the next representative of this district. We have taken her to not just represent Grand Bassa, she is not representing District #1, she is not representing Grand Bassa County; she is the representative of the Chairlady of this party, the one who is responsible for all of the women in Grand Bassa, Margibi and Rivercess. She could have been the representative by now. I know what happened; and we will correct what happened.

“To elect her, we will not elect her on promises. We tell you this here. All the things we will do for you to elect her, we will do it before elections come. So, the people who are coming to promise you, when they come to you, as a country you are tired my people. You are tired with people coming to you all the time. No CMC candidate in the Republic of Liberia, including the presidential candidate, will make promises for elections. We will do everything we say, and then we say, let’s go to election.

“In this small district, you can’t even move around. Your roads are not good. There are some people here who can pass by in their cars with high speed. That’s the same way you too will ride and go to visit your farms. So, as they pass by your to go to Buchanan, just leave them let them pass,” Bility said.

Doing Politics Differently

Setting the record straight, Political Leader Bility promised that the CMC will do politics the old-fashioned way, devoid of insults, acrimony; while respecting the rights of others, especially the womenfolk.

“This Grand Bassa, we will do things differently. I want the men to forgive me. But I know that the foundation and the success of every political party is on the women. So, we will not allow the women to struggle. We will empower them before election. We will allow you to the things we always do, and every member of CMC, especially the men, you are under instruction to respect your women. Any man who abuses a woman, any man who insults a woman, that man does not have a place in CMC, because the backbone of this party are our youth and our women. For the young people, I already know your problem. I will come to you.

“We know something is missing in Grand Bassa. You have two characteristics that no other county has. The people of Grand Bassa are the happiest people in Liberia. But for a long time we haven’t seen that happiness. CMC is coming back to bring that happiness. There is another quality in this county that no other county has, and I can say this with authority. Here, they do not practice tribalism. It is a matter of fact.

“We will follow your example, we will bring development in your county. Don’t let anybody fool you. You have given them everything they asked for and they have given you nothing back. So, any other thing now is all lies. Nothing. Zero balance. Our goal is to change this scenario. Some of them are even fighting us because we say we are coming across the country to fix roads and fix bridges. They are fighting us. Meanwhile, they sit in the Capitol Building and seal up all the money there. But we will look at you,” the CMC political leader stated.

Talking and Doing

Climaxing the well-attended program that included the youths, women, elders, commoners, and influential Bassolians, the CMC political leader turned over a brand-new twin cabin pickup to Madam Henriette F. Martor, Regional Head of the Bassa Belt.

“This is the key to the vehicle that will allow you to do your work in Grand Bassa, Rivercess and in Margibi. We also want to use this time to pray that God will keep you safe. Let your driver remain sober. We are all human beings. If he drinks, he should let you know so somebody else can drive you.

“We pray for you. You are a good soul. We are very proud to be associated with you. And so I turn over this vehicle to you as you do your work,” Mr. Bility said smilingly as the crowd surged and shouted praises on the CMC political leader for his empowerment drive.

“This is awesome. If this is the way CMC is going to do politics in Grand Bassa and Liberia, other big political parties will get the shock of their lives before 2029. I am watching the CMC with eagle eyes,” says Brutus Baryougar of District #1.
