UNIBOA Hails Brumskine’s Induction-Bassa Diaspora Celebrates New ECOWAS Judge

The United Bassa Organizations in the Americas, Inc. (UNIBOA) has congratulated Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine on her induction as a judge of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria, describing her elevation as a historic moment for Grand Bassa County and for Liberia. In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, UNIBOA National President Joseph R. Reeves said the appointment marks a milestone in the career of the lawyer and law professor, daughter of the late Liberty Party founder Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine. Justice Brumskine joins four other jurists on the court’s 2026–2030 bench, which hears human rights cases and disputes across ECOWAS member states, THE ANALYST reports.

“The National Leadership of the United Bassa Organizations in the Americas, Inc. (UNIBOA) proudly extends its warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to the Honorable Justice Charlyne M. Brumskine upon taking the oath of office and formally assuming her distinguished role as a Judge of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice,” Mr. Reeves said.

“This remarkable achievement represents an important milestone in her distinguished professional journey and a proud and historic moment for Grand Bassa County, the Republic of Liberia, and the Bassa community throughout the diaspora.”

A Father’s Legacy

Justice Brumskine’s elevation carries particular weight in Grand Bassa, where her late father was a leading political figure and respected legal mind. Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine founded the Liberty Party, whose political base lies in Grand Bassa, and was its standard bearer in the 2005, 2011 and 2017 presidential elections.

Like him, she built her career as a legal practitioner and educator. For many Bassa people, her swearing-in continues the family’s contribution to the rule of law at home and across West Africa.

Five-Member Bench

Justice Brumskine was confirmed by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government and sworn in at the court’s headquarters in Abuja, taking a seat on its five-member bench for a four-year term. UNIBOA said her appointment reinforces Liberia’s standing within West African legal institutions.

“As Justice Brumskine assumes this important responsibility of serving in the regional judiciary, UNIBOA celebrates her commitment to the legal profession, the rule of law, justice, integrity, and public service,” the statement read.

“Her elevation to this distinguished regional institution reflects her professional accomplishments and Liberia’s continuing contribution to justice and regional integration in West Africa.”

Diaspora Support

On behalf of its chapters and members across North America, UNIBOA pledged continued support for the judge. “Grand Bassa celebrates you. Liberia celebrates you. The Bassa people celebrate you. UNIBOA celebrates you! May your service on the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice bring honor and pride to our people, strengthen justice and the rule of law throughout West Africa, and inspire future generations of Bassa and Liberian professionals,” the statement said.
