Rule of Law Caucus Woos Ma Ellen in House Crisis -Wants Her Leverage Stately ‘Magic Wand’ Salvage Stalemate
MONROVIA – Though it is part and parcel of the crisis, in fact bona fide members of the minority bloc of embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, the Rule of Law Caucus in the House of Representatives is wooing former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to bring to bear her stately, matriarchal powers upon the intractable House Speakership crisis. Though the motives could not readily be established, it seems the Caucus is opting for an independent, national and international source of sterling qualities and repute, and they see Madam Sirleaf suited and qualified. The Analyst reports.
The Rule of Law Caucus says it has officially submitted a draft proposal to former President Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for onward transmission to all parties involved in the ongoing leadership crisis within the House of Representatives.
The proposal and involvement of the former President come amid deepening pace of the House leadership crisis, particularly following the ruling of the Supreme Court of Liberia affirming Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s legitimacy, and outlawing the move by the majority bloc against the speaker – a ruling essentially repudiated by President Joseph Boakai.
According to the Rule of Law Caucus, the proposal, once adopted through a binding resolution, seeks to bring an end to the reign of Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa and will ensure the conduct of a free, fair, and transparent election for a new Speaker of the House.
“It represents a significant step forward in restoring trust, upholding democratic principles, and fostering genuine reconciliation among members of the House,” the Caucus said in a statement.
According to the group, headed by Nimba County District #7 lawmaker, “beyond addressing the issue of leadership, the proposal also provides clear solutions to other outstanding matters that have plagued the House, threatening its functionality and undermining the spirit of governance.
“The Rule of Law Caucus remains steadfast in its commitment to constitutional order, legislative independence, and the restoration of the dignity and credibility of the People’s House,” the statement said.
