MONROVIA – Liberty Party, one of the country’s premier opposition political parties, has long been rocked by internal squabble since the passing of its founding standard-bearer Charles Walker Brumskine, as every effort to save the legacy of this great politician and jurist had fallen on deaf ears for over four years. It seems there is now a gleam of hope, as the acting chairperson who has been navigating the polarized party since her appointment in September is announcing that the party finally goes for the much-awaited convention Friday.
“Today is a long-awaited day,” the party political leader said yesterday in a short statement. “For over four years, the partisans of Liberty Party have waited patiently and hopefully for the announcement that would bring our party together.”
She recalled that after four months of reconciliation engagements by a joint committee from both sides of the divide, “we are pleased to announce to all of our partisans, friends, sympathizers, well-wishers, and the public that the Liberty is once again one unit under the leadership of Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, the political leader of the party”.
In keeping with the party’s constitution and the rules and regulations of the National Elections Commission, she said, partisans of the Liberty Party would gather Friday, February 7th to Sunday, February 9th host a national convention under the theme, “Stronger Together,” to finalize and legalize the party’s decision.
She further announced that the details of the process and procedures would be discussed and approved at the convention.
“However, I wish to extend my thanks and appreciation to all of our partisans for trusting and believing in us, and for the excitement and enthusiasm that we have seen since the process commenced,” the LP Political said.
Madam Karnga-Lawrence added: “We are inviting all partisans to gather on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at 8am, for a parade to our new party headquarters on the same Tubman Boulevard, opposite the YWCA for the opening ceremony of the convention. Come let’s reunite! Come let’s show love to one another!”
