MONROVIA – Karnga-Lawrence’s Buchanan address presented party reconciliation as the foundation for renewed political organization. Her account linked Liberty Party’s survival through division with loyalty, trust and collective discipline. The headquarters groundbreaking gave that argument a physical expression. Recruitment, savings schemes and youth programs extended it into the communities the party hopes to organize. These commitments matter because unity celebrated at a rally must also function between elections. The submitted account portrays a leader turning recovery into expansion within the governing alliance. Its strongest practical test lies in the proposed headquarters and county projects. Completing those commitments would give members something more lasting than the applause that greeted their political leader. The party seeks broader county expansion.
BUCHANAN, GRAND BASSA COUNTY — In a resounding demonstration of political resilience, institutional stewardship, and visionary leadership, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, Political Leader of the Liberty Party (LP) and President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, led thousands of partisans, national figures, and grassroots supporters in a historic rebranding and county headquarters groundbreaking ceremony in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.
While the grand program celebrated the Liberty Party’s bold new chapter as a strategic powerhouse in Liberia’s ruling Rescue Alliance, the occasion ultimately belonged to Karnga-Lawrence and the triumphant story of internal unity.
Addressing over 500 party leaders from across Liberia, market women, youth delegations, and high-ranking government officials, the Senate Pro-Tempore captured the defining spirit of the gathering, declaring:
“Not all political parties will go through struggles, have problems, divide, and form different wings. Liberty Party is on record as one of the only political parties that went through a bitter struggle, but we came back as one party.”
Leadership through party division
Following the passing of the party’s revered founding father, the late Counselor Charles Walker Brumskine, the Liberty Party was plunged into severe factional turbulence that threatened its very existence.
Where lesser political structures collapsed or fractured into warring splinter groups, Karnga-Lawrence stood as the anchor of stability, guiding the membership through the darkest chapter in its history with patience, principle, and political sacrifice.
Speaking extemporaneously with fiery authority and heartfelt emotion, the Senate Pro-Tempore reminded the crowd in Buchanan — the ancestral fortress of the LP — of the sacrifices made when the party’s survival hung in the balance.
She recalled rather elatedly: “Liberty Party two years ago, we stood at this party headquarters when this party was divided… And members of the Liberty Party, especially those on this base in Grand Bassa County, said we will go nowhere, we will remain with you. We made a commitment, and it was a bitter one: to say let us suspend our symbol, our logo, our party emblem, and support someone who will not disappoint us.”
That gamble on unity paid off. Today, the deep wounds of internal strife have healed, giving way to an unprecedented level of internal solidarity. “We have not just come back together,” Karnga-Lawrence emphasized to thunderous applause, “but the unity, the commitment, the loyalty that exist, I doubt that we can find it anywhere.”
Loyalty trust and political advancement
At the center of the party’s reunification is Karnga-Lawrence’s personal reputation for unyielding party loyalty and institutional integrity.
Using her own political journey to teach a masterclass on party discipline, she shared how she turned down enticing political lures during the Sirleaf administration out of deference to her late political leader, Cllr. Brumskine.
“The reason why I am today the political leader of this party and Pro-Temp is because of my sincerity, loyalty, commitment, and consistency. In the 2005 elections second round, former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf asked me to support her in the absence of our political leader, Cllr. Charles Brumskine. I told her that as a young person who worked so hard, asking me to support you without endorsement is a disrespect to my party leader… Madam Sirleaf told me she would do that and did.”
She reminded incoming and returning partisans that genuine political elevation springs from steadfast loyalty to the collective cause: “There have been a lot of temptations and offers to be appointed, and I said loyalty is to Liberty Party whether they won elections or not… If you believe in your leaders, you will always wait for their direction. Loyalty leads to trust, and trust leads to elevation and upliftment.”
Headquarters project and fundraising pledges
The unity on display was not merely symbolic; it was backed by tangible institutional momentum. Karnga-Lawrence officially broke ground for a state-of-the-art county headquarters in Buchanan — the first of five major infrastructure projects planned across Liberia under a five-year development roadmap.
Demonstrating her immense fundraising clout and the party’s renewed vigor, over US$100,000 (L$17,219,320) in cash and material pledges was raised on the spot toward the US$400,000 (L$68,877,280) project goal. Highlighting the cross-party respect commanded by Karnga-Lawrence’s unified LP, prominent figures from across the political aisle attended the ceremony, including Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, who publicly commended the party’s reconciliation and leadership vision.
Recruitment and community programs
Now that the Liberty Party has unified its internal ranks, Karnga-Lawrence is steering the rebranded organization toward aggressive national expansion. Demonstrating that the party’s doors are wide open, over 200 influential leaders joined the LP in the 72 hours preceding the event, alongside 10 key figures who returned after falling out during the crisis years, as a nationwide digital recruitment drive gets actively underway.
At the same time, the party continues to blend political organizing with direct economic empowerment. Under Karnga-Lawrence’s guidance, LP operates the largest Village Savings and Loans Scheme across three counties, directly transforming the livelihoods of thousands of market women and their families.
Furthermore, the party is expanding robust youth leadership programs across the country. By providing tangible opportunities and empowerment initiatives, the Liberty Party is strategically positioning itself as the premier political vehicle for Liberia’s rising generation.
Reconciliation within the governing alliance
The triumph in Buchanan sends a profound message across Liberia’s political landscape. By weathering the storm, rejecting permanent division, and emerging stronger as a unified force within the ruling alliance, the Liberty Party under Karnga-Lawrence has set a remarkable precedent for party building in West Africa.
Where others divided, the Liberty Party chose the harder path of reconciliation, proving to the nation that when leadership is guided by sincerity, loyalty, and vision, coming back as one is not just a dream, but a powerful political reality.
