Jovanus’ Father Weeps, Apologizes To Bereaved Family, School, Others

Mr. Syvanus Turay, father of Jovanus Oliver Turay, the boy who killed colleague at the Cyber-Ed Christian School of Excellence, a private school in the Sophie Community area of Congo Town, has come out publicly to extend his deepest sympathy, regret and apology to the family of the late student Precious Ireland as well as asking the family for forgiveness.

In an emotionally charged video released on his Instagram handle and which was well circulated on the social platform, Mr. Turay who is based in the United States of America was seen sobbing and weeping profusely, finding it difficult to alter words to portray the deep state of mind he was in and the burden the incident placed on him.

“This is heart boggling, horrible, horrifying, regrettable, depressing. No one thinks about this kind of thing and expects to be in their right frame of mind. I am deeply sorry, this is pathetic. I am sorry for the embarrassment we have caused. This is a burden I have to bear,” he stated repeated while trying to console himself as well.

He said he didn’t just come to know the late Precious as school mate to his son, but he is a family friend to the Irelanders for a long time, and he showed that naming almost everyone in the family from the father Dr. Philip Ireland, his wife, Rita and others in the family.

Mr. Turay said this closeness with the family is something that is very embarrassing and unfortunate that his family could be seen as something that brought sorry to the bereaved family. “There have been a lot of sentiments expressed by many people on this and you can’t blame them for these things. It is sad, it is embarrassing. The first time I had the opportunity to talk to my son, he told me two things and one of them was asking me,” Dad, have you reached out to the Ireland family? That shows how we are close to the family”, Mr. Turay said.

It can be recalled that an early morning gun sound at the Cyber-ED School of Excellence claimed the death of little Precious who was a 12th grade student. The investigation is ongoing but preliminary information from the incident so far is the doer of the act Jovanus and a friend who is said to be a person of interest, Matthew Gonkerwon are under investigation.
