MONROVIA – Independent investigation conducted by this paper has completely distanced the Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC) from a spate of negative propaganda allegedly sponsored by detractors backing indicted criminals Madam Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor who were charged with theft, robbery, attempted murder, and arson, all tied to a protest action led by the two, resulting to the burning of the SCR facilities on June 27, 2024.
The two were released on bail secured by the Sky International Insurance Corporation, but the insurance company later withdrew their bond, causing the court to order their re-arrest, while allowing them to seek a new bond with a different company for damages totaling US$275,210, requiring a bond of US$550,420.
According to the investigations, the current SRC management has become the center point of the misinformation and disinformation sponsored by detractors, while the SRC management has absolutely nothing to do with the legal ramifications of the matter because the current owner Jeety wasn’t even the owner of SRC plantation when Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor, then Chairlady and Secretary of the SRC Union, were allegedly the brains behind the protest.
Speaking on condition of anonymity because the case is already in court, a senior staff of the SRC indicated that the SCR CEO and their General Manager are being falsely accused of unduly influencing the case.
“Before making clarity, I want to ask one important question: ‘Was Mr. Jeety the owner of SRC plantation when Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor accused and arrested of being the brain behind the protest in which they were sent to prison?’ The answer is ‘no’. If so, why accuse Mr. Jeety? Is it because he is an Indian, or a man who has come to help us in this country?” the SRC staff wondered.
Why were Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor re-arrested?
Findings from the independent investigation revealed that Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor were re-arrested after SKY International Insurance Corporation withdrew their bond. Why?
SRC source added: “The reason for withdrawal is that the case has been delayed and the Insurance Company was concerned about their money being held without a clear resolution. So they decided to withdraw their Insurance Courage for Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor. Based upon that, the court responded, the court had no choice but to re-arrest Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor, legally allowing them to seek a new bond with a different Insurance company.”
Accordingly, Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor faced multiple charges including thief, robbery, and attempted murder on the General Manager’s life by one of the former employees behind the SRC fence in Barclay Farm community.
They were also charged with arson.
Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor were indicted in Margibi County, but their trial venue was changed to Montserrado County after the Prosecution Attorney requested a change of venue of trials. They can file for a new bond with a different Insurance Company.
“My advice to all the so-called advocates is that if you guys want to help with this legal process or Madam Mary Boimah and Lawrence Gborbor, please raise money to file in a new bond which will allow them to get out of this legal matter. Stop acting like your Facebook post will change the law. This is my take on this matter,” the source further intimated. “Mr Jeety is not behind this case, why should anyone think like that? What will Mr. Jeety get in return if these people are in prison? What are the economic benefits to an investor like Mr Jeety who thinks about profits and help to Liberians?”
“Never should you think you can sit in your homes, at your schools and on Facebook to call on citizens to get in the streets to burn places. The sky is so large for two birds to collapse, our silence on the negative Facebook posts doesn’t mean we are afraid, it is because of legal advice, but, please know your Facebook post is taken into account. Mr Jeety is not alone, we are here along with our citizens to provide good working relationships and economic benefits for our people,” the SRC staff rationalized.
The timeline and ripple effects
Attempting to provide a clear timeline of the events leading to the wave of disinformation campaigns against the SCR management, the staff showed a timeline that proved beyond reasonable doubt the SRC’s non-interference in the ongoing case.
Mr. Jeety could not have been a party to the case in June 2024 when the alleged attack took place at the company when he actually bought the company on August 26, 2024 and started production in November 2024.
The case was already in court before he bought the company after the company experienced huge damages to its properties and losses in cash.
The new owner is trying to put together the broken pieces left behind by the former management, this providing 900 jobs to Liberian family heads, renovating schools, clinics, camp houses for the workers, providing hot meals for the students daily, and also providing meals to children of surrounding towns and villages every Sunday.
The Riot
The independent investigation discovered that the incident occurred last year when some former workers attacked and burned cars and houses belonging to the company, looted the warehouse and took all the rice stock in the warehouse. At that time the accused Mary Boimah who is currently behind bars and accomplice Lawrence Gborbor were the union leaders who were accused and linked to the crimes committed against the company.
When they were arrested last year, they jointly filed a criminal insurance bond through the insurance company. The bond was granted by the court after the accused persons were indicted by the grand jury of the 13th judicial circuit court in Kakata. They’ve been under bond since last year June 2024 up to March 2025.
According to the court documents, the insurance company wrote the court and withdrew the insurance bond for the accused persons. The insurance company withdrew the insurance bond because of the delay in trial and can no longer continue to guarantee the accused persons in court.
Therefore, the court had to re-arrest the accused persons till they can file a proper criminal insurance bond through a recognized insurance company.
The court document revealed that the damages caused by the actions of the accused persons is USD 275, 210. This amount is multiplied by two which is USD 550, 420. Without this amount as a bond fee, these people will remain behind bars till the case is judged and finalized in court.
“I am encouraging our people to stop pointing accusing fingers at anyone because of your personal issues against the person. Please allow the court to handle this case and avoid personal opinion on this matter that is before the court,” the SRC staff said.
