Wednesday, 25 June 2025, Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo, Executive-Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia and Dr. Teeko Tozay Yorlay, Sr, Liberia’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO participated in activities of the first day of the 33rd Session of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Assembly in Paris, France.

The Analyst has gathered that delegation, including Liberia’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, was successful in pushing and acquiring their country’s admittance into the IOC in May 2025.

In a post, Dr. Yorlay said Liberia has become the 151st country of “the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (UNESCO-IOC) promotes international cooperation in marine sciences to improve management of the ocean, coasts, and marine resources.

The IOC enables its 151 Member States to work together by coordinating programmes in capacity development, ocean observations and services, ocean science, tsunami warning, and ocean literacy.”

“We are here and flying the Liberian flag as it should and ensuring that our country continues to occupy and maintain an enviable place within the family of countries globally,” he said in the social media message.
