MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia’s arguably hugest headache is the Ministry of Internal Affairs, formerly Ministry of Local Government, which has long been a domain of spiraled political recruitments, most times beyond the radar of the Civil Service Agency. The end result is an obstinately bloated, topsy-turvy payroll, coupled with far-from-suited-and-necessary employees. To rationalize and sanitize MiA personnel files and data, and ensure compliance with operating rules and laws, the CSA as well as the “Mother Ministry of government”, will be combing the countryside to bring sense of bear on the situation. The Analyst reports.

The Civil Service Agency (CSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), has officially launched a comprehensive personnel and credentials verification exercise for all employees of the Ministry across Liberia’s 15 counties.

The initiative is designed to thoroughly review personnel files and collect critical data, with the aim of organizing, maintaining, and verifying employee information for compliance, performance management, and informed decision-making.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Josiah F. Joekai Jr., Director-General of the Civil Service Agency, emphasized the importance of the exercise, stating that it seeks to ensure all Ministry employees possess the requisite qualifications, skills, and expertise needed to perform their duties effectively and professionally.

“This exercise is not just about data collection: it’s about building a reliable and accountable civil service. It also serves as a precursor to a broader, nationwide credential review and verification process for all Ministry of Internal Affairs employees,” Dr. Joekai added.

Hon. Francis Sakila Nyumalin, Minister of Internal Affairs, lauded the CSA for its continued support and technical partnership. He described the initiative as a major milestone that will ensure institutional strengthening and workforce development within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and by extension, the Civil Service of Liberia.

The Internal Affairs minister also described the exercise as a significant step toward institutional strengthening and workforce development.

The personnel and credentials verification exercise, which officially kicks off on August 18, 2025, will be rolled out in phases across all 15 counties, reinforcing the Government of Liberia’s commitment to building a transparent, efficient, and productive civil service delivery.
