MONROVIA – The National Alternative Congress (ANC) has been reacting to the rapid succession of positive events in the 8-month crisis that rocked the House of Representatives.
The ANC acknowledge the historic and commendable moves that saw the Supreme Court of Liberia playing a pivotal role in resolving the legislative impasse that has gripped the nation for the past eight months.
“This decision marks a significant turning point, paving the way for renewed collaboration and progress within our government,” the party said in a statement. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Supreme Court for their unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law, which has illuminated the path forward for our beloved country.”
Acknowledging Former Speaker Koffa
The ANC also commended former Speaker Koffa for his exemplary display of integrity and respect for the law, stating that his decision to graciously resign has set a powerful precedent, demonstrating that true leadership is rooted in humility and a commitment to the greater good. By stepping aside, Former Speaker Koffa has allowed for a much-needed reset in the 1st branch of government, enabling us to move forward with renewed vigor and purpose.
Congratulations to Speaker Koon
“We extend our warmest congratulations to Speaker Koon on his lawful election as the new Speaker of the House,” the party said. “His election is a testament to the democratic principles that underpin our nation and a reflection of the collective will of the people.”
The ANC also indicated that Speaker Koon’s decision to listen to the trumpet of law and resign in order to undergo the proper electoral process is a commendable act of leadership.
“We pledge to work with Speaker Koon during his tenure, as long we work together to uplift our people and propel our nation to new developmental heights,” said the party.
Commitment to Collaboration
The statement added: “As we embark on this new chapter, we look forward to working with President Boakai and his administration. We recognize that the success of his government is intrinsically linked to the success of our nation and its people. By fostering a spirit of cooperation and unity, we can ensure that the aspirations of our citizens are realized and that Liberia continues to thrive.”
However, the ANC said it would not hesitate to checkmate the government when the need arises. We will remain a constructive opposition during this period.
A Vision for the Future
The party said the chains of events in the last months serve as a reminder of the resilience and strength of Liberia’s democracy, and a testament to the enduring spirit of the Liberian people’s collective determination to build a brighter future.
“As we move forward, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to the principles of justice, equality, and progress,” the ANC statement concluded.
