MONROVIA – Anyone, mainly rival Liberian politician, thinking that the dismal showing of the Alternative National Congress in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections had injected a dose of fatigue and despondency in its Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings would have a rude awakening because all evidence is that he’s neither leaving the party alone nor quitting politics. From the horse’s own mouth, The Analyst reports, Mr. Cummings is still ambitious and his party is still agile for any political eventuality, now and in the future.

Though he had been conspicuously silent since the 2023 elections in which he and his Alternative National Congress (ANC) performed relatively poorly, businessman turned politician Alexander B. Cummings is not ‘going up the mountain’.

Speaking at the homecoming press event in Monrovia, Cummings said though there has been a lot of noise about the party, with some asking, ‘where is it, where it’s going’ the ANC is alive and well.

The ANC political leaders noted that the party is in the process of re-engaging, re-energizing and renewing itself.

“So we want to encourage all Liberians who care for our country, who want to see real change in Liberia, to come and join the ANC, so we can transform our country for the betterment of all Liberians,” Cummings said at the event.

He said a lot of existing parties and new parties have been trying to encourage ANC members “to leave us” pivoting all kinds of speculations about the ANC.

“Let me say to you today that the ANC is alive and well. Let me thank Taa for the energy he is bringing to the party and let me say to all partisans to keep their faith and stay their course,” Cummings said.

“People were making all kinds of noise about our people; some saying, ‘oh, Taa left the ANC; he said bad things about the party; but one thing, we know Taa and Taa knows us. And we know what Taa Wangbe brings. We know what he doesn’t bring. And I encourage us, all members, partisans who left to come back, and more importantly, we are encouraging new partisan to come and join this movement for changing Liberia.”

He called on ANC members to use the time others are running up and down unfocussed to engage into institution building.

“We need to be selling the beliefs of the ANC, the vision, the values of this party, so that no matter who is the political leader, the Secretary General, or the chairman, it’s about the institution, and the change that the institution can bring to Liberia,” he said further.

Cummings said, no matter who comes and goes, everyone believes in the institution because it is self-sustainable and mature; this, he said, is the only way the leaders will bring the change necessary for our country.

He continued: “You know our country is struggling. If you take a poll today and then ask Liberians, ‘Are you better off today than two years ago’, the answer will be ‘no’. And I believe our party is the only institution, the only party that offers fundamental change pathway for our country. So, when you leave here today, go and advocate for our party. Let’s go and bring new people in. In your church, your mosque, your community, in your organizations, advocate for the ANC; advocate for change in Liberia; advocate for better Liberia, because everybody is working together.”

Stand up to Aggressions

Cummings said the ANC can change Liberia, adding: “The political class will fight us. Those people that are enjoying Liberia the way it’s today will fight us. There are few thousand of them in government. In Legislature, they are leeching on the country in the way they are doing because they are the roaches sucking this country drops.”

He said the ruling class would always fight against the ANC because they know that when the ANC takes power, that lifestyle of people will change, and all Liberians will benefit from the resources of this country.

“You know, and they know too, that Liberia in our hands, we will do things differently; they know we advocate the mantra, ‘You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results’. Liberians will see differences in the leadership of the party and my engagement of the party will be different. We got to employ different behaviors, if we want the party to fly, if we want the party to be successful.”

Concluding his remarks, the ANC leader said: “I want to put the country on notice that, the ANC is alive, the ANC is well. You will see more aggression; you will see more movement and don’t listen to all the nonsense people talked about the ANC, that it is homecoming group party or existing party. This is a vibrant party.”

Support to Gongloe-Weh

Cummings did not forget to say a word about the Nimba County senatorial by-elections, and that party endorsed Madam Edith Gongloe Weh.

He called on all Nimbians to support Madam Edith Gongloe Wah, stating that “if you are Nimbian, go to Nimba and help with the poll watching. Help to protect the votes. If you are not Nimbians, you can contribute money to her campaign.

“Many reasons why I support Edith Gongloe is that as a husband, as a father of a daughter, as a grandfather of three daughters, I want those women as family to aspire to be anything they want to be. You want to be Senator, Representatives, doctors, lawyers, political leaders or if you just want to be a house wife, it is a choice. It’s that choice we want to offer our people and I believed, I know it’s that choice Edith Gongloe Weh offers citizens of Nimba County.

“So, let’s support her, if you can vote, vote. If you can’t vote, no matter whatever you can, do it, because it’s important to our country; Nimba is significant, the second most populated. Nimbians are amongst industrial Liberians, and so as ANC, we endorse her and encourage all of our partisans and anybody who hear my voice to vote her and give her their support”.
