MONROVIA – ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is fighting a reputational battle on social media. The company says a Verity News video on Facebook wrongly presented the people shown as its employees. The clip ran under the caption “Dignity or Slavery?” AML says it was never contacted for comment or verification before publication. It wants the video taken down and a public correction issued. The dispute touches worker welfare, a sensitive issue for any large concession operator. It also tests verification in fast-moving online journalism. AML’s statement, however, offers no account of who the people in the video are. As THE ANALYST reports, sources opine that the burden now shifts to Verity News to show its evidence or correct the record.
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has rejected a video published by Verity News on Facebook under the caption “Dignity or Slavery?”, which states that the individuals shown are employees of the company.
In a statement issued Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, AML declared that the claim is incorrect and that the individuals featured in the video are not employees of ArcelorMittal Liberia.
The company noted that it regrets that the video was published without AML being contacted for comment or for verification of facts.
According to AML, this has led to the dissemination of inaccurate information that does not reflect the reality of employee facilities and services at the company.
AML therefore called on Verity News to remove the inaccurate publication and issue a public correction to ensure that the facts are properly represented.
The company encouraged the public to rely on verified information, stating that it remains available to provide accurate information about its operations and workforce practices.
Company Defends Employee Welfare Record
AML stated that it operates modern facilities in Buchanan and Yekepa and provides catering services to employees as part of its commitment to employee welfare, health, and wellbeing.
The company added that it takes employee welfare seriously and is committed to providing safe, supportive, and appropriate working and living conditions across its operations, including access to dining and welfare facilities.
The company emphasized that it continues to uphold its commitment to transparency, employee wellbeing and responsible engagement with stakeholders and the media.
