MONROVIA – The Liberian Senate will today, Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., convene a ceremony marking the opening of the Third Session of the 55th Legislature.
The assembly is in accordance with Article 32(a) of the Constitution, which states: “The Legislature shall assemble in regular session once a year on the second working Monday in January.”
The ceremony will commence with both the Senate and the House of Representatives engaging in a grand march from the main entrance of the Capitol Building to the front of the building. Upon arrival at the front of the Capitol, the two Houses will part ways for the hoisting of their respective county flags.
During the flag-hoisting ceremony, each Senator is expected to stand before the pole bearing his or her county flag for the hoisting. Thereafter, the Senate will proceed to its main Chamber for the formal opening ceremony.
During the indoor ceremony in the Senate Chamber, the President Pro Tempore, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, will deliver her opening statement and set the legislative agenda for the Third Session.
According to a Senate release, former Senators and other invited guests are expected to grace this historic occasion. The ceremony will be followed by a reception hosted for Senators, guests, and staff on the grounds of the Capitol Building.
