MONROVIA – The Liberian Senate has officially concluded the Second Session of the 55th Legislature, covering the period from January 16 to December 18, 2025.
In a statement, Senate Pro tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence announced that the Senate held 60 sittings and passed 89 pieces of legislation, including 68 enactments, 18 ratifications, and 3 amendments.
The Senate also carried out its oversight responsibility by reviewing 236 executive nominations, and confirming 219, indicating that fiscal and economic governance remained a major priority.
The Senate concurred with the House of Representatives on the 2026 National Budget, helping to keep government operations running smoothly and development programs on track through a transparent voting process.
The Senate also passed important laws aimed at driving economic growth. Notably, the Senate approved the Act establishing the Agriculture Enterprise Development Bank of Liberia, designed to support farmers, strengthen rural communities, and improve food security.
In addition, the Senate acted on key concession agreements and ratified offshore petroleum production-sharing contracts to help Liberia responsibly develop its natural resources and attract credible investment.
On the regional and social side, the Senate supported the establishment of the Mano River Union Parliament and passed the National County Sports Meet Act, recognizing sports as a powerful tool for youth development, unity, and social cohesion.
