UL, LWSC to Fix UL Bathrooms

MONROVIA – The University of Liberia (UL) and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) have forged a landmark partnership to renovate bathrooms across UL’s Capitol Hill, Fendall, and Health Sciences campuses.

Earlier yesterday, UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan met with LWSC Managing Director HonMo Ali to finalize the initiative’s details. Hon. Ali, accompanied by LWSC Deputy Director for Technical Services Mr. Patrick Sandikie, presented findings from a water and sanitation assessment conducted on the Capitol Hill and Fendall campuses; the Health Sciences campus assessment is ongoing.

Ali expressed LWSC’s readiness to collaborate: “LWSC is well-positioned to work with UL to improve water and sanitation conditions on UL’s campuses. We can work together, and we will.”

Under this government-to-government arrangement LWSC will rehabilitate wells, dig new boreholes as needed, build water storage facilities, fix pipes and plumbing, and install new bathroom facilities including toilets and sinks.

UL will also purchase renovation supplies using funds recently received from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

It was also agreed that LWSC will cover costs for strengthening Capitol Hill’s water and sewer grid access and digging Fendall wells; labor will involve LWSC professionals, UL’s Plant Operations Department (POD), and UL’s cross-functional technical team.

Work is expected to commence this week.

UL’s Interim Vice President for Administration, Mr. Sehmah R. Jallah, has instructed POD, led by Mr. Jefferson Walker, to clean all campus bathrooms this week ahead of renovations.

“The renovation workers deserve a clean and clutter-free space to get going,” Jallah noted.

President Maparyan welcomed the partnership, highlighting its significance for the UL community.

“This is the collaboration we’ve been waiting for. We see a light at the end of the tunnel. UL’s students, faculty, staff, and guests will finally have dignified facilities worthy of the nation’s flagship university,” she said, expressing gratitude to Mr. Ali and LWSC.
