Liberia Selected on ECOWAS Democracy Dialogue Panel -As Snowe, Others Deliberate on “Why Democracies Die”

MONROVIA – Liberia’s representative to the ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr., who also chairs the ECOWAS Political, Peace, Security and APRM Committee, appears today Wednesday as a panelist to the 2025 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue currently taking place in Accra, Ghana.

This year’s Dialogue, themed “Why Democracies Die,” brings together eminent leaders, policymakers, civil society actors, and democracy advocates to interrogate the structural and systemic drivers of democratic decline across Africa and beyond. Against the backdrop of rising authoritarianism, institutional fragility, and shrinking civic space, the Dialogue seeks to examine how democratic systems are weakened or dismantled-and what can be done to protect and revitalise them.

According to an August 27, 2025, GJF letter addressed to Senator Snowe, his participation is self-sponsored, and as such, travel and accommodation arrangements will be his sole responsibility.

“However, we would be delighted to have you join this important conversation; hence, the Foundation will gladly provide guidance on recommended hotels, visa facilitation tips, and local transport options upon request to ensure a smooth experience.

The 2025 GJF Democracy Dialogue is chaired by former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, with keynote address delivered by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, alongside a high-level panel discussion exploring the topic “Resilience, Geopolitics, and Citizen Agency and a Fireside Chat with H.E.
