Yekeh Kolubah Resigns from COP -Cites One-Man Show Driven Agenda as Drawback

Montserrado County District #10 outspoken representative Yekeh Kolubah has finally tendered his resignation from the Council of Patriots (COP), Liberia’s biggest pressure group that has been holding the government of President George M. Weah’s feet to the fire in terms of accountability, transparency and good governance checks.

Making his position known in a letter addressed to the COP Chairman Henry Costa September 13, 2021, Representative Kolubah stated that the COP which was established as a civil society/pressure group to ensure that government and stakeholders’ feet are kept to the fire, to do the best for the country, has deviated from its purpose and turned into a one man show, with personal-driven issues overtaking national issues, amidst attacks on member-parties’ leaders thereby driving away membership of the COP.

According to Rep. Kolubah, the pressure of the COP is lost and morale of the COP in 2018 and 2019 has faded because of administrative problems amongst which is the lack of consultation for decisions to be made in the organization.

“In view of the above mentioned, I, an executive member of the COP, herewith tender my resignation as member of the COP as of the date herein inscribed. I thank you for the time we spent together striving for justice and encourage you to correct the errors observed for the betterment of the organization to regain its lost image,” Representative Yekeh Kolubah stated in his letter of resignation to the COP Chairman Henry Costa.

It can be recalled that Rep. Kolubah suspended his membership from the COP in 2020. Pundits believe his resignation from the COP could put a damper on the pressure group’s zest as one of the biggest ancillaries of the opposition community.

He was credited for his instrumental role in organizing the January 6, 2020 protest which started peacefully but led to a violent end when anti-riot police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters who had gathered at the entrances of the Capitol Building and the Executive Mansion to make their demands.
