UP Closes Campaign -Optimistic of Victory in 2023 Elections

MONROVIA: Overwhelmingly gathered along the streets in a 360 degree formation cognizable to validate popular views amongst them the Unity party is ahead of other contenders in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections, the Standard bearer Joseph Nyumah Boakai, disappointingly did neither address multitudes of supporters and partisans nor members of the media to give his finally message unlike the occasion marking the launch of the campaign of the Rescue Team.

The failure of the ambassador to leave a final message at the close of the Unity Party Alliance  campaign only speaks to the fact that the campaign launch message stands is the gospel preaching the intention of the Rescue Team that it will forcefully resist any attempt by anyone to steal the result of the election away from them.

On September 17 when the UP officially launched its campaign, Ambassador Boakai vowed at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium to forcefully resist any plans or attempts to thwart the will of the Liberian people by stealing these elections.

“First and foremost, let me make it abundantly clear and assure you that any plans or attempts to thwart the will of the Liberian people by stealing these elections will be forcefully resisted by us, the people of Liberia, and the international community, which has invested so much in the peace and stability of this country,” he said.

The Unity Party political leader also promised to leave no stone unturned to work with international prosecutors to expose and arrest those who would foster electoral violence and derail our hard-won peace, and added that he appreciates recent statements by some of our partners including the United States government regarding safeguarding the integrity of these elections.

Apparently holding to this vow, the Unity Party Presidential whose float, accompanied by a huge convoy of other floats and vehicles bearing partisans visited every intersection but did not say a word amidst jubilation of just spotting the ambassador’s convoy.

The euphoria of closing of the Campaign Rally of the Rescue Team started at about 10AM on Saturday, the 8th instance of the month, when men and women, boys and girls of voting age started converging at the various junctions of the respective communities for the celebration of the Unity Party Campaign; and by 12 noon to 1pm the communities were emptied into the street to await the Campaign Caravan of  Rescue Team led by a float bearing  former Vice President Boakai tagged Rescue-1 along the entire hierarchy of the Rescue Team, including Rescue Mother Senators Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence,   Abraham Darius Dillon and other Unity Party Alliance executives of the Campaign.

Also in the convoy were the rescue sisters, aunties, and uncles who were in the caravan of the Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Nyumah Boakai, the forerunner of opposition presidential contenders in the 2023 electoral process in Liberia.

The day, Saturday, October 7, 2023 was beautifully dawned and the sun rose from beyond the horizon warmly as the Unity Part Alliance partisans, supporters, and disgruntled Liberians protesting the leadership style of President George Manneh Weah the hurried trooping at their various junctions for the campaign parade.

The entire landscape was decorated predominantly with green and white as floats from every supportive corner drove in convoys of other pickups who slowly moved through the circle 360 degrees from the residence of Ambassador Boakai from where he started his program at about half past 11AM.

The weather was very fair and the atmosphere was friendly; rhythms of pro-Unity Party were being danced by tumultuous crowds at every junction along the streets, starting from ELWA Junction where the caravan of the Unity Party Alliance Campaign Close started.

“Move from our ear with your, Muyan;” we give you six years you were dancing Buga…” was one of the prominent music to which the Unity Party partisans rocked, as the two fingers signaling #2 with is assigned  to Ambassador Boakai was waived by nearly everyone along the streets as a sign of greetings and solidarity amongst them.  “One round victory; some of them chanted while some of them sang, anti-drugs songs”

As phones with radio frequencies stuck in the years of monitoring partisans, the reports of violence started filtering from the Jacob Town end, where it was reported that some CDCians attacked retaliating Unity Party partisans and members, thereby resulting in a scuffle that endured for a while.

According to the reports, a stone flew from the sidewalk into the float of Ambassador Boakai in the Jacob Town area near the football field in the area, but it was a feeble one as it did not touched him, although the report, including speculation that a person armed with a pistol attempted to enter the UP SB’s float but was prevented by the security assigned to the Statesman. However, these reports have not been verified up to press time, no liability is yet to be established.

In the meantime, our reporter who was on a bike going around the circle said throngs of human mixed with vehicle traffics were seen everywhere, stating that partisans from Montserrado County Districts #15, #16 and #17 created multitudes at the Freeport awaiting the JNB Caravan, while in Central Monrovia, the throngs from the BW Harris vicinity where the UP Headquarters is located down to Johnson Street and Up Broad street weren’t passable and pliable by vehicles dude to the human gatherings.

In the Sinkor belt was the same situation of overcrowdedness of people at junctions awaiting the JNB’s float to join the caravan.

Unlike the opening of the JNB-JKK Campaign of the Rescue team when the Ambassador Boakai addressed the throngs of supporters under a highly stormy weather, he did not address his supporters yesterday Saturday to the disappointment of this reporters.

It can be recalled that Unity Party political Leader Boakai promised to leave no stone unturned in working with international prosecutors to expose and arrest those who would foster electoral violence and derail our hard-won peace, and added that he appreciates recent statements by some of our partners including the United States government regarding safeguarding the integrity of these elections.

“Preserving the sanctity of elections is of paramount importance in upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring that the will of the people is accurately represented,” he reiterated.

Saying while he welcomes the imposition of sanctions on those who would attempt to thwart the will of the Liberian people, the former Vice President call on ECOWAS, the United States, the European Union, the African Union, and organizations such as International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES) to fully, thoroughly and actively engage the process now to avert any threat that will reverse the hardships so many Liberians and their families have been subjected to for the past years, promising that the team will not fail

He assured his supporters that the voices of the people’s voices matter and that under a Unity Party leadership, the people’s concerns will be heard, their dreams will be respected, and their aspirations will be nurtured.

The Unity Party Alliance’s flag-bearer also indicated that that he, Senator Koung and the team promise their unwavering commitment to serve, saying, “We are all excited and optimistic about what is now a national call to rally citizens of this great country for a rescue mission to reverse the hardships so many Liberians and their families have been subjected to for the past 6 years.
