MONROVIA – The family of the late Charloe Musu, daughter of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu-Scott who was gruesomely murdered on February 22, 2023 in Lower Virginia, has registered utter dismay over reports in the mass media that the Government of Liberia has ordered the conduct of an autopsy on the remains of their deceased relative without any invitation or information to the family to the observe the process.
Expressing their dissatisfaction in a letter addressed to Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean dated March 11, 2023 and signed on behalf of the family by Bishop Julius C. Musu, the family says it considers the Government’s action a “total disregard for and disrespect to them”.
“We reference our letter of March 4, 2023 and highlight the attached copy of the Release of the Body to the Family by the Coroner upon his Inquest performed on the body of the late Charloe Musu on February 27, 2023 in the presence of two family members; namely Victoria Musu- Nimely and Bishop Julius Conwlor Musu.
“Hon. Minister, the family is seriously taken aback by a publication in the mass media; social and traditional attributed to the government of Liberia ordering the conduct of an AUTOPSY on the remains of the late Charloe Musu, killed by an unknown assailant on Wednesday February 22, 2023 without any invitation and or information to the family to observe the process. This action, in the view of the family, is inconsistent with best practice and the family sees and considers it a total disregard for and disrespect to them.
“We also reemphasize that the Coroner, upon his inspection of the body in the presence of the said two (2) family members turned the Body/remains of Charloe Musu over to the family as indicated on the said attached document. We note that since the issuance of this document signed by the Deputy Coroner, Montserrado County, R.L and approved by Mr. Abraham B. Ricks, County Coroner, Montserrado County, R.L.; no other formal document / communication has been issued to the family. Relying on the strength and authority of the said document, we proceeded to the initiate discussions regarding funeral arrangements with the Funeral Parlors on Saturday, March 4, 2023. It was there and then we were informed via telephone by the Manager of St. Moses that he had received instructions via telephone calls from the Minister of Justice and the Inspector General of Police that no action should be taken any further except instructed by them. Also, we reiterate our request for a copy of the Coroner’s Report from the Inquest performed on February 27, 2023.
“Honorable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, the family finds it egregiously disrespectful that it must learn of information concerning the remains of its beloved child, Charloe Musu, in the media.
“We therefore request that the appropriate and proper information about the remains of the late Charloe Musu be given to the Musu family as a matter of right and courtesy,” the Musu family noted.
It can be recalled that the Musu family brought to the attention of the Ministry of Justice the incidents of the attacks by unknown and unauthorized persons on the 8th, 9th and 22nd of February 2023 on the home/residence of the former Chief Justice, Her Honour Gloria Musu- Scott located in Lower Virginia, Montserrado County, Republic of Liberia.
The third attack resulted in the murder of her daughter Charloe Musu, inflicting injuries on Alice Johnson and taking away some valuables including personal mobile phones, laptop and one bag of 25 kg rice, among other items.
