MONROVIA: As President George Manneh Weah concluded his campaign tour in River Gee on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, thousands of Marylanders turned out at the border point between River Gee and Maryland to welcome and usher the President and entourage in their county amidst singing, dancing and jubilation, lined up on both sides of the road leading into the county.
After a brief traditional welcome ceremony performed by the chiefs and elders and witnessed by the local county authority President Weah and entourage headed to Pleebo City where a mammoth crowd turned out for a political rally to support the reelection bid of the president against the ensuing 2023 general elections.
Like in other places where similar rallies were held, several organizations and prominent citizens having enumerated some of the achievements of the President then pledged their support to the President and assured him of their resolve to have him reelected on October 10, 2023.
The City Mayor of Pleebo City Wellington Kyne who officially presented the key to the city said he was excited to welcome the President and party to the county and then listed several achievements of the President for which according to him, the President deserves a second term.
“Mr. President, we want to thank you for the achievements you have recorded since your election. There are many but few can be pointed out which have in no small way positively impacted us.
“Thank you for the 24 hour light we are enjoying here through the CLSG project from Cote d’Ivoire; thank you for the approved vocational and technical college in Gedetarbo, thanks for the plan to expand the Harper ports, etc, Time will not permit us to name all but we can onnlyy assure you of our massive support to reelect you”, he said.
The Chairperson of the Maryland Chapter of the Rural Women Network of Liberia Madam Cecelia Twaleh, who led a group of other women to welcome the president and entourage, said they were grateful to the President for the several empowerment projects for women especially the rural women. She thanked him for the LD3m donated to them by the government of Liberia through the instrumentality of the President.
“You are our son who has made us proud and on the day of the elections, we are going to support you and make sure that you will be reelected so that we will have more development “, she said
A group of gentlemen of the two while pledging support also donated some gifts which were turned over to Speaker Bhofas Chambers for onward presentation to the President.
Speaker Chambers while presenting the items to the President described him as “a Contemporary Prince of Peace and an extraordinary man of vision and foresight” He also informed the people that the government has approved the amount of $200k in the national budget for the commencement of a technical and vocational college in Gedetabo. He urged the citizens to go all out on October 10, 2023 “because Mr. Weah means well for Liberia.
President Weah, speaking later, told the people that he was excited to visit Maryland to meet with the people and solicit their votes.
“I want to thank you for the support given to me over the years, I am deeply happy to have you in my life. I want to assure you that my second coming will bring more reward”., he said
At the rally in Harper city, President Weah commented on the road conditions in the country and said as much as he was optimistic about solving Liberia’s road predicament, it was important to inform the people that the rainy season in the country has been challenging and looks forward to solving most of the transportation problem in the country.
He said his reelection bid, if successful, will bring total improvement in the lives of the Liberian people, stressing that he has set up a lot of projects to kick off immediately after his reelection.
