MONROVIA – From all indications, the upcoming Press Union of Liberia elections promises to be highly competitive as new names keep cropping up to contest for the coveted presidency. According to information reaching our desk, enterprising young journalist Julius Kullie Kanubah of Internews fame will be going against the current PUL Secretary General Daniel Nyakonah, Jr. for the top post.
Issuing a press release September 5, 2022, Mr. Kanubah informed the public about his resignation from Internews as Journalism Quality and Reporting Officer where he had served for the past 14 months.
“The decision, which is at my own volition, was officially communicated in a 30 August 2022 letter addressed to the Chief of Party of Internews Liberia, Ms. Lien Bach.
“In the letter, I notified Ms. Bach that as my contract ends on the 30th of September 2022, I will not seek renewal as I desire to pursue another chapter in my professional career. I informed Ms. Bach that beginning 1st September 2022, I would utilize my outstanding annual leave days after which I will not be back to work.
“I expressed my sincere thanks and appreciation to Internews for affording me the opportunity to be a part of the European Union-funded Liberia Media Initiative (LMI) project and the Internews family in general, since June 2021.
“I cherished the working relationship with the organization and assured that the experiences gained while interacting with fellow workers will remain a part of my education.
“I pledged to make available to support the LMI/Internews team in whatever capacity the organization deems relevant,” said Kanubah, whose resignation might have stemmed from a PUL provision that mandates candidates vying for elected offices to bear full membership and be practicing journalists.
“My friends and professional colleagues: one dimension of time is to do the right thing at the right time in pursuit of another chapter in our professional career for the public interest. I am extremely grateful for the incredible love and support. We are motivated, no doubt,” Kanubah stated confidently.
