Police To Take Gloria Scott to court soon -But Agreement on Probable Charge Being Debated

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) is expected to forward former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott to court in connection with the gruesome attacks on her home in Brewerville, Virginia which lead to the killing of her daughter Charloe Musu sometime in March this year, The ANALYST’s judicial reporter has gathered.

Sources at the LNP informed this paper that authorities at the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice are still arguing on the specification of charges that would be proper to bring against the former Maryland County Senator.

It is not clear whether the former Chief Justice and former Justice Minister will be charged with the crime of murder, manslaughter, or negligent homicide for the death of her late daughter, but our sources said the investigation into the killing of Charloe Musue is being concluded.

Our sources further said the former Chief Justice was seen at the Liberia National Police Headquarters where she was fingerprinted and grilled.

It can be recalled that on February 22, 2023 former Chief Justice Scott reported to the Liberia government an attack on her residence in Brewerville, Virginia in Montserrado County by an unknown assassin, who she alleged had killed Musu Charloe in cold blood.

According to an account from Madam Scoot the attackers who were earlier tagged to be robbers broke into her home in Virginia on that day and stabbed her two daughters, leaving one dead after they were taken to the hospital, and the other in critical condition.

Madam Scott was accordingly saved when she ‘used pepper spray’ on the robbers who attempted stabbing her.

Madam Scott reported that the attack on her residence was the third in a row.

The counsel to opposition leader Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence said she had earlier complained to security authorities that her home in Virginia was invaded on two separate occasions on Wednesday and Thursday, February 8 and 9, 2023 respectively by some unknown individuals in what appeared to be an attempt on her life.

She said the intruders broke through the roof while she and her family were asleep and made attempts to enter the living room but were prevented by the hooks and locks placed on the door that leads to the living room.

The one-time Maryland County senator said her complaint was meant for authorities to provide her security, but noted that there was no sign that the authorities took preventive measures to deter the tragedy that later befell her family.

The police would later invite Cllr. Scott and members of her household for questioning. Addressing a press conference at the time, Police Spokesman Moses Carter said: “The Police invited former Chief Justice, Gloria Musu Scott, Gertrude Newton, Rebecca Youdeh Wisner, and Alice Johnson for further questioning in connection to the alleged armed robbery incident at her home.”

Police Spokesman Carter added that failure on their part to honor the invitation would leave the LNP with no option but to take appropriate legal actions through the court of law, despite the request by the police for Cllr. Scott and her household to be questioned is not the first as she was immediately questioned after the incident and has since been cooperating with the police investigation.

However, after reports about the death of the former chief justice’s daughter Musu, the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Justice ordered an autopsy to be conducted on the deceased body, but reports from the autopsy became controversial when the Musu Scout family questioned the delay of its findings for more than a month since the examination amidst claim of extraction of the hair of the deceased.

Accordingly, the family wondered why the Police released a preliminary report of the autopsy to the government instead immediately following the conduct of the autopsy on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, which puts the cause of death as “severe bleeding or loss of blood as a result of multiple stabbing.

“The refusal by the government to release the coroner’s report, or share a copy with the family, leaves enough grounds to believe that the physical examination conducted by the Coroner of Montserrado County on the body did not find the extraction of her hair and other strange things the family noticed during the conduct of the autopsy,” the family said.

The Musu Scott Family also repeated their earlier alarm that on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, the Police, through the Family Lawyers, requested the appearance of five family members including Gertrude Newton, Alice Johnson (AC), Godson Y. Kollie, and the biological parents of the late Charloe Musu, Magistrate Alphonso C. Musu, Sr. and Lucy Musu, father and mother, for questioning.

But upon arrival at the LNP Headquarters, police investigators surprisingly had a separate meeting with the father and mother of the late Charloe Musu in which they denied the lawyers’ presence on grounds that they (parents) were not subjected to an investigation but rather Police authorities wanted to express sympathy with them, family sources disclosed.

“Shockingly however, during the said meeting behind closed doors, police authorities were said to have indulged in manipulating and inciting the father and mother against former Justice Minister Musu Scott,” the family later stated.

According to the Scott family, the police investigators asked the biological father and mother of Charloe Musu whether the both of them had been to the house of the incident to see that the house is very protected, telling the duo that there is no evidence of anybody entering or leaving the house that fateful night.

The police investigators, according to the family, told the late Charloe’s parents to go and ask Cllr. Scott to tell them the truth about how their daughter died.

“The investigators also showed to the father, photos from a smart phone of one of the senior police officers, at which time the father said he saw the late Charloe Musu lying on the floor in a pool of blood,” the family stated.

The family added that the police authorities promised to provide transportation to take the father and mother to the crime scene to see how secure the house is so that they too can believe that there was no strange entry and exit.

According to the family, it’s a mystery how could the Police have a photo of the late Charloe Musu lying on the floor of the house in a pool of blood when there was no police presence during the incident up to the time the victim of the attacks was taken out of the house to the Faith Clinic and then the Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town.

This, they said, leaves them to also wonder whether the police had somebody on the scene during the attack or the attacker/murderer had taken a photograph of the late Charloe and sent the same to the police.

To date, these concerns remained unaddressed as police sources have come with news of sending the former Chief Justice to court provided that they have all agreed to which charge is probable to convict her in the courts of law.
