The Public Health Initiative of Liberia with funding from the a Canadian International Development organization, the Global Affairs Canada through waterAid Liberia completed a two day training for central level staff from government institutions, namely Health , Education, Gender, Youth and Sports and National Wash Commission on Menstrual Health and hygiene with emphasis on supply chain and waste management held at Golden Key Hotel, Paynesville February 9-10, 2022.
According to Miss Joyce L. Kilipo, Executive Director/CEO of PHIL the objectives of the program were to increase provision, awareness and utilization of menstrual health and hygiene product supplies in schools, health care centers and public spaces and also increase government’s responsiveness to the menstrual health needs of women and girls in Liberia.
Miss Kilipo further said the training covered topics such as menstruation and menstrual cycles, menstrual practices, believes, norms and restrictions water and sanitation (MHM-friendly WASH facilities), roles of men and boys in menstrual health, menstrual health products and supply chain in Liberia, the importance of investing in menstrual health as well as best practices and case studies on menstrual health and hygiene management.
At the closed of the training, each ministry represented developed a plan and committed to supporting the establishment of a coordination platform on MHM in Liberia
PHIL is committed to promoting and enhancing the quality of health care delivery system in Liberia and was conceived in 2011 by some Liberian Health professionals to contribute towards the effectiveness of the health care delivery system in the country through leadership, partnership, innovation, advocacy and empowerment.
