Orange Liberia through the Orange Digital Center, has pledged its commitment to sponsor the Liberia Cyber Warriors Team for the upcoming ECOWAS Regional Cybersecurity Hackathon, set to take place from the 14th – 16th October 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria.

The sponsorship comes as part of Orange Liberia’s commitment in promoting digital security and innovation in the country, while supporting the development of young talent in the field of cybersecurity.

The Liberia Cyber Warriors Team, consisting of skilled cybersecurity experts and tech enthusiasts, who will be representing the country in this year’s competition, in order to enhance technical skills as well as to strengthen regional collaboration in combating cyber threats.

The ECOWAS Regional Cybersecurity Hackathon aims to encourage innovative solutions that will help in combating cybersecurity related issues both in Liberia and the West Africa sub region, thereby promoting collaboration among regional cybersecurity professionals.

Orange Liberia’s sponsorship is expected to have a significant impact on Liberia’s representation at the event and help raise the profile of the country’s growing cybersecurity talent pool. ORANGE DIGITAL CENTR LAUNCHES CYBERSECURITY TRAINING FOR 150 NATIONAL SECURITY SECTOR PERSONNEL

In observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Orange Liberia, through the Orange Digital Center (ODC) has committed to enhancing cybersecurity awareness and strengthening Liberia’s digital defenses. As part of this initiative, the ODC is conducting a three-week intensive cybersecurity training for 150 personnel from Liberia’s national security sector.

The training, which runs from October 14 to November 1, 2024, aims to equip security professionals from the Liberia National Police, Ministry of National Defense & Armed Forces, Executive Protection Agency, National Security Agency, Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency, and Liberia Immigration Services with essential cybersecurity knowledge and skills.

Since 2004, October has been globally recognized as “Cybersecurity Awareness Month” first in the U.S., and later expanding to the EU, Australia, and now all over the world. Liberia has been commemorating Cybersecurity Awareness Month since 2021, bringing together private and public sectors to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.

In his opening remarks at the launch of Cybersecurity training, Mr. Zaza Mulbah, Senior Manager of the Orange Digital Center, highlighted the importance of this training in safeguarding Liberia’s digital infrastructure. “This program will empower national security personnel with the tools, knowledge, and practical skills to secure our digital assets and foster a safer online environment,” Mr. Mulbah stated. The training will cover cybersecurity concepts, best practices, tools, and legal frameworks, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the evolving cybersecurity landscape.

The training is structured to be hands-on with the theoretical concepts immediately followed by practical exercises where trainees will apply the theory to the real world, Mr. Mulbah concluded.
