MoE Mandated to suspend classes for All SCHOOLS -As Pres. Weah Suspends Nat. Blama for Time Indefinite

“Given the confirmation this morning by President George M. Weah and the Special Presidential Committe on the status COVD19 in Liberia – announcing that the country has as of Friday, March 13, REGISTERED its first case of the disease – the Ministry of Education has hereby mandated that All SCHOOLS (INCLUDING INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING) shall suspend classes for one week, beginning Tuesday, March 17”, according to the release signed by the Minister of Information, Eugene Lenn Nagbe.

The release further said “this is necessary to allow the health authorities conduct a complete surveillance and tracing of those said to have arrived on the flight along with the infected person, and all those who they might have come in contact with. This is a proactive measure intended to minimize the spread of the disease. Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 23, subject to further assessment of the situation”.

“Everyone is urged to strictly abide by this instruction”, the release concluded.

In a related development, President George Manneh Weah has suspended for time indefinite, the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Nathaniel Blama, for repeatedly violating prescribed health protocols and endangering public health.

It can be recalled that the EPA boss refused to adhere to the established health protocols set up at the Roberts International Airport to prevent the transmission of the Coronavirus disease.

Also, following the arrival of medical staff at his residence to take him for treatment, he again declined to board an ambulance, opting instead to follow the team with his private vehicle which is further violation of public health measures.

The President strongly warns all officials of government in particular and members of the general public to strictly abide by the directives of health officials as the country strives to contain coronavirus.

The President reiterated his call to all citizens and residents to comply with the directives of the health authorities in order for Liberia to contain the scourge.

He said “together we fought Ebola, and together we will fight the coronavirus”.
