LINCSA Chairman Recuses Himself from the case “involving the late Ms. Precious Ireland that requires His Commission’s intervention”

The Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA) has announced that Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby, II Chairperson of the Commission has officially recused himself from all matters pertaining to, or that will arise out of the case involving the late Ms. Precious Ireland (niece of the Chairman) that requires the Commission’s intervention.

According to LiNCSA press release, Chairman Grigsby indicated that his decision to recuse himself is pursuant to Chapter V section 2 of the Act creating the Liberia National Commission, which in pertinent part provides that, “Commissioners shall be required to disclose any potential conflict of interest that may hinder the full and objective execution of their duties”.

The Chairman, Atty. Grigsby, has requested the Vice Chairperson of the Commission, Madam Bennietta T. Jarbo to collaborate with the Liberia National Police and other relevant security institutions in investigating and or prosecuting the supra-mentioned case as he provides legal advisory to the bereaved family.

The late Ms. Precious Ireland who met her untimely demise caused by gun-shot wound as indicated by the SOS Children Village Liberia Medical Center, was a student at the Cyber-ED Christian School of Excellence located in Sophie, Congo-town catholic community, Monrovia.

The Commission assures the public of its fullest commitment to support the Liberia National Police and relevant agencies within the security sector in investigating the strange phenomenon of the recent school shooting allegedly by Juvanus Oliver Turay, an eleventh grade student of the Cyber-ED Christian School of Excellence.

Lastly, the release concluded,  the Commission will work with relevant agencies including the Ministry of Education, Gender and Social Protection and others as well as School Administrations to take the necessary actions that will prevent further occurrences of the sad shooting saga.
