Liberian Youths Express Optimism over Appointment of Atty. Grigsby at LiNCSA

A cross section of Liberian Youths and Students has welcomed the recent nomination of a Youth Development Expert, Atty. T. Maxwell Grigsby, II. as Chairman of the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA).

Atty. Grigsby was on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 nominated to the position by His Excellency Dr. George M. Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia. Following his nomination, scores of former and current Liberian Youth and Student Leaders as well as other young Activists and professionals, hailed the Liberian leader for what they described as a well-timed decision; while expressing optimism in Grigsby’s capacity to excellently deliver on the tasks attending said office.

In a rather detailed opinion piece titled “The Grigsby I Know”, the current Secretary General of the Federation of Liberian Youth, Mr. James Koryor (FLY) attested to the leadership, innovation and integrity that Atty. Grigsby has demonstrated in the discharge of varying duties over the last decade.

According to Mr. Koryor, the appointment has reignited hope in the younger generation, considering that Atty. Grigsby has an enviable track record of being a result-oriented and visionary leader who insists on excellence and productivity.

For his part, Mr. Pindarous W.T. Allison, former Secretary General of FLY has since welcomed Grigsby’s appointment with optimism that he will ably reflect a true representation of his generation at the national governance level.

Mr. Allison further challenged the nominee to continue on the path of excellence in service delivery, as the hallmark of public governance. When confirmed as Chairman of the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA), Atty. Grigsby will spearhead the Commission’s mandate of formulating policies and ensuring the implementation of such policies and measures aimed at addressing the problem of proliferation and illicit manufacturing, use, distribution, possession and trafficking of small arms and light weapons; as well as, shall coordinate and monitor all private and public sector efforts to prevent, combat and eradicate the proliferation and illicit trade in small arms and light weapons within and across the borders of Liberia.

It is not surprising why his appointment has become a beacon of hope for the young generation. The Federation of Liberian Youth and other youth leaders can openly boast that this result-oriented and vision-minded young Leader will lead the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA) to noble heights.

Considering the function of the commission which consist of formulating policies and ensuring the implementation of such policies and measures aimed at addressing the problem of proliferation and illicit manufacturing, use, distribution, possession and trafficking of small arms and light weapons; and coordinating and monitoring all private and public sector effort to prevent, combat and eradicate the proliferation and illicit trade in small arms and light weapons within and across the borders of Liberia.

Moreover, reference the commission mandate to collaborate with the Ministry of Justice to ensure that the Liberia National Police (LNP) give licenses to would-be users of small arms characterized by transparency and accountability, Atty. Grigsby is rightly position to lead said charge.

He has the requisite knowledge, expertise and energy to advance the common of cause of the commission in sustaining the fragile and deriving clear mechanism to minimize the proliferation and illicit trade of small arms and light weapons.

Atty. T. Maxwell Grigsby, II is a native born from the Southeastern Region of Liberia, particularly Sinoe County, with enviable leadership and academic credentials.

Atty. Grigsby or Teklo, as he’s affectionately called inspires the generation of Liberian young leaders with his usual message of hope, optimism and an unimpeachable credibility. Comrade Grigsby, like many other ordinary young Liberians, has experienced the excruciating pain and agony of abject poverty and terrible state of deprivation of basic life’s necessity. He was not a benefactor of parental wealth or as we say in Liberian parlance, “he was not born with silver spoon’. Amidst the distasteful and highly deprived life’s journey, Teklo was determined to persevere for higher heights believing that the ‘difficulties were necessary ingredients for his success today’.

Atty. T. Maxwell Grigsby, II. is a Liberian Lawyer who got admitted to the Sinoe County Bar Association as Attorney-At-Law. But he is more so a multifaceted professional, with qualifications and competencies in Public Sector Management, Tax Administration, Natural Resource Governance, Economics Youth Development, among others.

He brings to bare a mixture of elongated professional experience, having worked for over one and half decade in both the Public and Private sectors in Liberia; stemming from Under Secretary for Programs of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) to becoming Executive Director of the Liberia Petroleum Watch (LiP-WATCH), a policy think-tank of young professionals with the goal of ensuring the sustainable management of the hydrocarbon sector and the resources thereof for the maximum feasible benefit of ALL Liberians.

Atty. Grigsby later transitioned to the Board of Directors of LiP-WATCH as Chairman, upon a call to national duty at the then Revenue Department of the Ministry of Finance as Enforcement Director, Small & Medium Tax Division.

He later became Enforcement Manager of same Department at the newly established Liberia revenue Authority before his transition to consultancy in the private sector. Unarguably, Atty. Grigsby has managed to distinguish himself as an innovative character who utilizes every available opportunity to achieve institutional goals, which has been demonstrated even in his current portfolio as Revenue and Finance Consultant at the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Monrovia City Corporation.

Comrade Grigsby is an Advocate, Humanitarian, Tax and Public Sector Administrator and Attorney-At who believes that “if it’s not difficult, it’s not deserving and fulfilling’. He has exhibited leadership, innovation and integrity in the discharge of his duties over the past nine (9) years.

Whereas, before coming to government, Atty. Grigsby had served the youth and student community for several years.  He has served in top positions to include: Deputy Secretary-General for Programs at the Federation of Liberian Youth, (FLY), and Parliamentarian representing Sinoe County at the Mano River Youth Parliament, Liberia’s Chapter and Secretary General of the Progressive Students Alliance Leading Movement (PSALM) among others.

He is a passionate advocate for youth employment and empowerment, women and girls’ education and a proponent for the advancement of and adherence to the rule of law.

Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby II, is the founder and chief financier of the Grigsby Cares Foundation. A local charity that provides support to the less privilege through scholarship for deserving students, financial aid to young people in need and community projects on a need basis. Atty. Grigsby has exceptional skills in finding solutions to complex institutional problems. He is trust worthy, innovative, studious, hardworking and a vision developer.

He is a leader who develops his subordinates by transforming their weakness into strength and a selfless leader who utilizes the expertise and competence of his followers.  He does not believe in manipulation and coercion of people to have things done but influence action hands-on leadership and providing equal opportunities for all. He has enviable qualities that can lead to the overall success of any institution.

Grigsby tries to appreciate the value of things and not to see criticisms as the way out. He ascribes to the legal principles of due process and does not result to hasty judge. He is patient to listen to his followers and provide direction amidst hopeless situation.  Atty. Grigsby strongly believes in collaborating and coordinating with individual and team members to achieving the positive values of society.

Atty. Grigsby is married to Mrs. Jeneba Z. Kaindii-Grigsby and their union is blessed with four children; Shelton, Maxwell, Maxim and Pantotae. He has been married for over seven and has motivated many young people to appreciate family values.
