BALTIMORE, MARCH 9, 2021 – The Academy Health of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health holds a health event to discuss global approaches to the COVID-19 vaccines. At the health forum, infectious disease scientist, HYPERLINK “https://gg2018.nef.org/speakers/dr-dougbeh-christopher-nyan/” Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan of Liberia will be speaking on “Global Health Equity and Socio-political Trends of COVID-19 Vaccine Dispensation,” according to the letter of invitation.letter of invitation.
In the last several weeks, regulatory agencies around the world including the US Food and Drug Administration and European Union’s regulatory body have approved a number of vaccines for emergency use in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has already claimed close to 2.6 million lives globally to date. Among the vaccines approved are those produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson.
Not wanting to give up much of his pending presentation when question by reporters, the award-winning infectious disease expert and social advocate, Dr. Nyan pointed out that, “some countries around the world particular rich western countries have been indulging in vaccine-grab and leaving poorer countries even more vulnerable in the COVID-19 pandemic that has already devasted global humanity.” He added that, “I will be discussing the global approaches currently taken and their implications.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has lasted more than a year now since the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Wuhan, China in November 2019 and the declaration of the pandemic by the WHO in 2021. Public health measures put in place including lock-down, mask-wearing, social distancing, and hand-washing have contributed to fighting the pandemic. But, medical scientist have long pressed for the production of vaccines against the deadly virus.
The Johns Hopkins health forum is organized in partnership with the African Public Health Network and will take place on 11th March 2021, thus bringing together public health students, faculty, and policy makers in the healthcare space. This will mark the second time the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of Shufflex Biomed, Dr. Nyan will be speaking at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
