MONROVIA – In the wake of the indictment drawn on him by the United States Department of Justice through the Office of the Attorney General for alleged involvement in wire fraud and degree racketeering, Mr. Stanton Witherspoon, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Spoon TV Network, has told the public that he will speak at the appropriate time to give his account of the story as was widely reported in the media especially the social media where it has been trending over the last two days.
Mr. Witherspoon who surprisingly appeared on the regular Spoon TV talk show last night midway of the program where Senator Jeremiah Kpahn Koon of Nimba County, was being hosted to speak on trending national issues surrounding his party, the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) and his bid for the Liberian presidency, had earlier issued a statement on the official social media page of his company to express his gratitude to all those who were concerned about him and assured them that the situation is being handled adequately and professionally by his legal team.
“With a very heavy heart, I bring you greetings today. Despite all we have heard about my challenges, I feel a sense of obligation to address you all today.
“However, I certainly hope that we can all appreciate that I am restricted from going into additional details beyond this, for now, on the expressed advice and instructions of my legal team.
“While I am very aware of your desire to get even more details on these charges, I can only appeal to you all to let the investigation and legal process play out. While temptation pushes me to address this matter in far more detail, I have to abide by my legal team’s instructions.
Like a patient following a doctor’s orders, it is my legal team’s work in this matter that will bring the best legal resolution. It is my legal team, and not even myself personally, who is in direct, regular contact with the investigating authorities and it is their advice that guides me in addressing it”, he said
Witherspoon who said he was grateful for the uncommon concern expressed in the premise, said “those who out of humanity, decency, and sheer kindness, whether you vehemently disagree with me or not, have reached out with messages of encouragement, publicly rejected the condemnation, or just remembered me and my family in your prayers, I thank God for the better angels that you are and wish you all well. I only ask for your continued prayers and encouragement for my family and me”.
He said he hope that at the appropriate time, the full facts will provide the necessary clarity on the matter and also assured the public that despite the situation, the regular Spoon Talk will not be hindered;
“Going forward, in this very pivotal election season, Spoon Talk will continue its commitment to keep the Liberian people informed globally and provide education leading up to the presidential and general elections. Our commitment to our people does not take a backseat to our trials and challenges.
“There is a greater being who orders our paths and steps, certainly mine”, he concluded.
During the course of the program with the usual large viewership, some of whom had gone there to get the latest on the case involving him, Witherspoon, who is affectionately called “CEO” was unfazed and unperturbed as he went in his usual element of actively participating and asking the hard questions which he posed to Senator Koon before he departed to honor another important engagement according to him.
He had earlier thanked and appreciated his co-panelists who, according to him while they were concerned about what was unfolding around him, were however undisturbed and majestically carried out their usual work on the Talk Show as if there was nothing happening. He reiterated that no matter what happens, his flagship program which is broadcast also through the various media outlets in Monrovia, will continue to serve the Liberian people.
Hundreds of Liberians who commented under the post wrote favorably for Witherspoon whom they said was a good person and had brought innovation to the media space which has afforded a good number of citizens to be abreast of trending issues in the country especially as the nation embraces for the crucial general election which comes up in October, 2023.
It can be recalled Federal authorities in Florida charged 25 people with participating in a wire fraud scheme that created an illegal shortcut for aspiring nurses to get licensed and find employment.
Recently unsealed federal grand jury indictments allege the defendants took part in a scam that sold more than 7,600 fraudulent nursing degree diplomas from three Florida-based nursing schools, federal officials said during a news conference in Miami on Wednesday afternoon. Prosecutors said the scheme also involved transcripts from the nursing schools for people seeking licenses and jobs as registered nurses and licensed practical/vocational nurses.
