MONROVIA – Contrary to the press release issued by the First United Methodist Church which cleared the Senior Pastor of the Church, Reverend Dr. Julius YZK Williams of the alleged corruption complaints filed against him, the accuser Daniel Fassa, has responded to the release that he stands by his allegation against the clergyman and that he has series of documentary evidence to prove his case.
In his rebuttal to the report, a copy of which was served The Analyst, Mr. Fassa dismissed the finding which termed his allegation as “erroneous, unsubstantiated, malicious and with no supporting evidence, stressing, “this is where it is glaring that the FUMC leadership having received numerous documents from me has decided to shield the clergyman, perhaps because they are in cohort”. He said it is utterly inconceivable for one to conduct an investigation in the absence of the complainant, being him.
“Moreover, I have a series of documentary evidence to prove that Rev. William was investigated on May 9, 2019 based on complaints filed by the leadership against one Bro. Wilfred Freeman and Bro. William Boayue. The analysis of the investigation among other things stated that the accused Freeman admitted and confessed to his complicity in the financial scandal and the Rev. William burned the financial documents in the absence of the Accountant, something which cast doubt on his integrity. The documents are said to contain his (Rev. William) involvement.
“How can he be cleared without giving reasons for his action to destroy the documents? In another development, the pastor could not account for funds collected by him from church membership to purchase a non-existent parcel of land on which to construct a cemetery. For example the pastor admitted collecting USD$23,874 for the project but in his report to the Charge Conference of June 25, 2022 he reported USD$7,149, thus leaving a variance of USD$16,725 to be accounted for by Rev. Williams.
“For the same project, Rev. Williams admitted collecting and receiving LD$167,710 while the Charge Conference report started LRD$ 40,100 leaving another variance of LD$ 127,610 to be accounted for by the clergyman”, he said .
Fassa, who served formerly as a Financial Secretary of the Men Unit in the church, said in the midst of what he called “these inconsistencies”, he is finds “it hard to believe that Rev. Julius YZK William’s is innocent except that FUMC is shielding Rev. Williams corruption, perhaps the leadership are benefitting from the graft” Since the Analyst did not contact me before publishing these fallacious information, I have attached the relevant documents that outlined Rev. Williams dubious financial activities.
“Finally, I am calling for an independent financial auditors to audit the leadership of FUMC. I am sure the leadership will not commission an audit, to provide the accuracy and sincerity of the press release entitled, FUMC Investigation Clear Rev. Williams, I challenge them to commission an Independent audit”, he concluded.
It can be recalled that FUMC last week issued release from an investigative panel composed of Rev. Dr. Samuel Brown, District Superintendent of the Monrovia District Conference, Bro. Powo C. Hilton, Chancellor of the LAC/UMC, and Bro. Terrence T. Toe, Lay Leader, Monrovia District Conference clearing Rev. Williams of all the charges against him Mr. Fassa, and termed as “erroneous, unsubstantiated, malicious and with no supporting evidence. The same report said Fassa was suspended from the church for time indefinitely.
