MONROVIA : The House of Representatives unanimously voted and approved US$ 41.3 million the draft budget submitted by the President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to that August Body for ratification. The budget is mainly to enable the government to service civil servants’ salaries and domestic debts.
The House voted on Tuesday at the House Plenary with 38 votes in favor, two against and with two abstained to get that approved by the lawmakers.
Speaking at the House Plenary, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Fonati Koffa said as the draft budget amended has been adopted to be sent to the Liberian Senate for concurrence, 38 votes in favor of the motion is a tacit endorsement, acceptance and ratification of the budget at the level of the House.
Speaker Koffa indicated that the draft budget was amended by the majority votes and was adopted and translated through the Chief Clerk, Mildred Sayon to the Liberian Senate for further legislative action.
Giving the reports in summary to the House Plenary, the Chairman of the Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Banking, Montserrado County District #16 Representative Dixon W. Seboe said the Executive has presented to the House a request to allow the lawmakers to approve US$ 41.3 million expenditures as contained in the budget for the month of February.
Seeboe while giving his synopsis on the committee reports and findings to plenary on Tuesday averred that the chief executive needed to get the relevant approval to do spending, or else what it would mean is that GOL will literally shutdown, saying “The Executive cannot pay salaries and they cannot do anything in the absence of money”
Meanwhile the House of Representative through the speaker has directed the chief Clerk to communicate the approved draft budget for the month of February to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.
