HECA Mobilizes For Conservation In Liberia

MONROVIA: Higher Education for Conservation (HECA), a United States based organization has launched a move to call in action aimed at mobilizing Liberia for sustainable conservation.

HECA, making a move to call in action to mobilize Liberia for conservation is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) whilst it partners with several other organizations including the University of Georgia, Alabama A&M University, International Focus Magazine and Wellesley Centers for Women among others.

During a conference held at Farmington Hotel in Harbel, Margibi County, Monday, April 22, 2024, several panelists consistently elaborated on Liberia’s commitment to the environment, its policies and strategies being applied to ensure sustainable conservation of natural resources.

Megan Kyles a Panelist, Director of Economic Growth Office (EGO) at the USAID, making her presentation, she keenly mentioned the need for sustainable conservation adding it is indispensable to national development and sustainable economic growth.

Nora Bowier, another panelist, Managing Director for community carbon conservation at the Liberia’s Forestry Development Authority (FDA), whilst she also made her presentation during the conference, revealed that Liberia’s forest is being threatened by lack of proper and sustainable conservation policies and comprehensive mechanism.

She pointed out that commercial forestry is not being carried out responsibly in line with Liberia’s land law thus posing threat to forest conservation and the environment.

Among those panelists who made hands-on-experience presentation, Sylvie Djacbou also an environmental expert at Greenpeace Africa, indicated that conserving forest and protecting biodiversity in is worthy for sustainable development of natural resources and expansion of growth.
