Gov’t Launches SUN Secretariat-Liberia

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has officially launched the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Secretariat on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 in Monrovia, Liberia under the theme; Multi Sectorial Approach to improve Nutrition.

The SUN Movement-Liberia Secretariat was launched by the Director General of the National Public Health Institution of Liberia (NPHIL), Mr. Tolbert Nyenswarh.

Speaking during the Launch, Mr.  Nyenswah calls on the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the National Legislature to make budgetary allocation to support the SUN Movement Secretariat Liberia and SUN related sectors such as health, Agriculture, Education, Gender, Commerce for its effective function.

The SUN Movement Secretariat-Liberia is currently situated at the Ministry of Health in Congo Town and the launch was graced by officials of government including Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina S. Jallah, and LIGIS Director General Prof. Francis F. Wreh.

Others in attendance at the launched were Deputy Minister for Planning and Development at the Ministry of Agriculture, Hon. Roberts K. Fagans, Sr. amongst others. Also in attendance were partners from Irish Aid, USAID, UNICEF, World Food Program and Civil Society Organizations and among others.

Meanwhile Members from various ministries and agencies who are also signatories to the SUN Secretariat-Liberia Pledge support as a sign of commitment.

At the same time, the National Nutrition Policy which serves as the bedrock for all nutrition specific all sensitive interventions that was validated in April 2019, and was also disseminated to key stakeholders.
