‘From Smell No Taste To Smell and Taste’ – Tipoteh Vows Work for Change; Launches New Initiative

As Liberians commemorated the Birthday of the Late President William Tubman on November 29th, Dr. Togba-Nah Tipoteh, founding leader of the Movement for Justice in Africa (MOJA), launched a new organization named and styled Liberia for Us (LIFU, longing to make Liberians work together to alleviate poverty and suffering from the country.

Launching the new initiative in based in Dolo Town, Unification City of the Smell No Taste, Tipoteh, outlined the goal of the new initiative to ensure that Liberians work together to move from the longtime state of “Smell No Taste” to the state of “Smell and Taste.

Dr, Tipoteh, a world renowned economist, pointed out that Liberia has the world’s worst record of children who should be in school and are not in, as 6 out of 10 Liberian children who should be in school are not in school; 9 out of 10 Liberians are living on less than two United States dollars a day, with Liberia being the second poorest country in Africa and the fourth poorest country in the world.

When the foreign exchange rate rose from LD130 to USD1 in December 2017 to LD170 to USD1 in May 2018, the poor people began crying louder and louder, showing, according to Dr. Tipoteh, that they want to move from the state of Liberia For Me and the state of Smell No Taste to the state of Liberia For Us and the state of Smell And Taste.

The good news from this crying of poor people, from the view point of Dr. Tipoteh, is that they are becoming better prepared to work together to stop the greed and corruption of the people in government offices running Liberia For Me rather than Liberia For Us.

When the People of Liberia through fair election process, which he noted does not exist nowadays, place the “Right People in the Right Places,” then Liberia will be moving from Liberia For Me to Liberia For Us and moving from Smell No Taste to Smell And Taste.

LIFU, a release indicated has the Vision of a clean moral and sanitary Liberia. Hailed from Nifu, Grand Kru County, Dr. Tipoteh said that he was happy to launch the Organization, but added that the main reason for his happiness was opportunity to be in Smell No Taste where he delivered his Keynote Address containing a message that can help to improve the living conditions of the People sustainably.

Launching the LIFU, Dr. Tipoteh, declared that the implementation of the idea of moving Liberia from its longstanding state of poverty and underdevelopment to the state of Liberians will take procession of their destiny as engendered in the nomenclature of his new initiative Liberia for Us.

The initiative, he noted in his release, is about what will improve the living conditions of the People sustainably, reiterating when Liberians work together to move from the longtime state of “Smell No Taste” to the state of “Smell and Taste” the live of the people will be better.

Dr. Tipoteh told leaders and members of LIFU, them that their name, Liberia for Us is a call on them to lead initiatives of setting the best examples of taking possession of the country instead of leaving the country with certain group of privileged people.

He challenged them to ensure that the people work together to end the common Liberian saying “da doh pepo tihn” attitude but rather adopt a new attitude of that says, “da we-ah tihn” meaning it is for us all.

The ‘we-ah tihn” attitude encourages the people to work together to place the good people into local and national offices to make the decisions and take actions that lead to the movement from the state of Liberia For Me to the state  of Liberia For Us.

Dr. Tipoteh informed the audience of religious leaders, local government leaders, community leaders and the leadership of LIFU that the way to go forward for the betterment of the country is to help the people to know about their suffering, and what is the reason for their suffering, so that they can be encouraged to take peaceful action together to make Liberia better.

Dr. Tipoteh, whose entourage included Ms. Elitha Manning, the Founding President-General of the Liberia Labor Congress (LLC), closed his Message by stating that all of the Organizations that he is connected with will continue to work to change Liberia from the state of Liberia For Me to the state of Liberia For Us; and this means changing Liberia from the state of Smell No Taste to the state of Smell And Taste.
