Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus has been appointed by the board of directors of the Association of European Lawyers-AEA International Lawyers Network, as Vice-President, with the title “Coordinator for Africa.” His formal appointment will be officially made and publicized at this year’s annual Congress of AEA lawyers from 196 countries of the world, in Nice, France.
This appointment will give Cllr. Cephus a positive publicity image and will allow him to write in the official profile of his firm and credential as Vice-president of the Association, the largest network of law offices in the world and will focus on the institution’s activities in countries covered with lawyers in all of the 196 independent countries of the world.
In a letter sent to Cllr. Cephus, he was officially informed by the President of AEA-International Lawyers Network, Mr. Pedro Beltran Gamir that a special ceremony will held in honour of his invaluable services to humanity, in good governance, active practice and defence of the interests of clients, rule of law, and social justice in Africa and Europe mainly in the interest of international justice, corporate governance and stability.
Cllr. Cephus was further was informed that a formal announcement will be made to the news media during the ceremony and Cllr. Cephus’ picture will be displayed on all AEA websites around the world as one of its progressive and articulate lawyers.
Meanwhile, Cllr. Cephus has commended the President and members of the board of directors of the AEA-International Lawyers Network for his preferment as the first non-European Vice President, and non-European resident for such an esteemed organization, and noted that he is exceptionally gratified by the decision to have been selected amongst some of the best minds in the organization who are better qualified, competent and experienced to occupy such position.
He described his appointment as visionary and rewarding but noted that it was important to congratulate the leadership of the AEA for such appointment which he believes clearly demonstrates that the lofty ideals that led to the formation of the AEA has now transcended the borders of Europe and called on his colleagues to work together on the number of pressing issues facing lawyers, law firms and legal advocates irrespective of race, color, creed.
As coordinator for Africa, Cephus will be given the opportunity to visit other branches of the AEA-International Lawyers Network covering 196 independent countries of the world and will work with, share and provide his experience, first as a private lawyer in a struggling economy dominated by divisive politics and hate speeches, what to do, and how to survive and operate a law firm under such circumstances, and then a social advocate and commentator, and finally as an active practicing courtroom lawyer, intermittently as defence sometime prosecuting attorney spanning over a decade in Liberia, West Africa and Europe.
Cllr. Cephus has accepted his appointment and indicated to the board of directors to officially invite to his investiture ceremony, Cllr. Arthur T. Johnson as special guest of honour to witness and bear testimony to his ascendancy as AEA Coordinator for Africa.
Cllr. Cephus request to the board of AEA to invite as his guest of honour Cllr. Johnson stems from his(Johnson) recent adversarial role in the impeachment trial involving Justice Kabineh Mohammad Ja’neh of the Honour Supreme Court of Liberia for official misconduct, breach of duty abuse of judicial discretion, in which he came face to face Cllr. Cephus, but was defeated.
Cllr. Cephus has selected Cllr. Johnson for the is precious ceremony because he is the only lawyer who was personally recommended by Cllr. Cephus for membership to the European Criminal Bar Association(ECBA), and European Fraud and Compliance Lawyer(EFCL) and was unanimously accepted and has since distinguished himself as a European criminal lawyer.
Finally, following the ceremonies of his appointment Cllr. Cephus will then automatically be admitted as member of a small group of prestigious lawyers, called the Justinian Lawyers, an exclusive net of Lawyers with only one office per country.
Meanwhile, the ceremony will take place in Nice, Paris on may 30 and 31, 2019.
Cllr. Cephus is the first Liberian lawyer to have taken a matter before the ECOWAS Court against his own government, the first and only listed counsel of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights(ACtHPR) based on Arusha, Tanzania, the first and only certified Liberian counsel on the list of professional counsel of the International Criminal Court(ICC) in The Hague, the only certified counsel of the Association of Defence Counsel practicing before international Courts and Tribunals(ADC-ICT), The Hague, only West African lawyer who is member of the International Law Association(ILA).
His appointment therefore, did not come as a surprise because given his vast experience in the courtroom and has advocacy in international justice, corporate governance and stability, he would truly be of asset to his new calling. His name and qualification as a seasoned courtroom lawyer has been published on all websites that are operated by these prestigious international institutions.
