“Don’t Mind Supreme Court” -Dillon Slams Ruling from Apex Court -As Kaipay Ramps Support for Nyonblee
MONROVIA – What seems to be a defiance of the recent ruling by the Supreme Court on the lingering crisis within the Liberty Party where the apex court ruled against Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and others was stated on Saturday, April 15, 2023, in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County, when Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserrado County told partisans not to regard the verdict but should remain resilient to protect their party and its resolve to be part and parcel of the mission to rescue the country from the hands of the ruling establishment, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
Dillon made known his stance on the ruling when he gave a brief remark at the first major political gathering of LP hosted by political leader Senator Nyonblee Karngar Lawrence after the verdict where he discredited the supreme court and its judgment, especially when there were glaring pieces of evidence the supreme court should have used to pass judgment against the National Chairman of LP, Musa Hassan Bility.
In a local Liberian parlance intended for the understanding of the crowd, especially the local residents, Dillon ran lines through the judgment and said it could not yield him the understanding that will convince the public about the rationale of coming out with such a verdict.
“The thing the Supreme Court said, yor don’t mind it yah. That ley Supreme Court there. When Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine in 2017 took the National Elections Commission to court because there was cheating in the election, in keeping with the law, the law says if you say ten dollars lost from you, and someone says I only saw 2 dollars, the law will hold you for that whole 10 dollars.
“Cllr. Brumskine said there was cheating in the election. Cllr. Brumskine carried proof, the Supreme Court looked at the proof, and they said we saw the cheating but it is not plenty that can change anything.
“But do you know what Cllr. Brumskine did? The founding father of this party, he said, ‘I agree with the Supreme Court, but as a law-abiding citizen, I will accept what they said, but they were wrong’, he said.”
The Montserrado County Senator comparing the case filed by Brumskine in 2017 and that of the one filed against Bility, contended that there was a similarity where there was an admittance of wrongdoing, yet the court went ahead to rule otherwise.
“The Supreme Court said we saw the document Bility changed. We saw the Farmington Document that Bility changed, the original document; but the Supreme Court said, yor just leave that one there”, Dillon said amidst laughter from the people.
He then praised Senator Lawrence whom he described as a “woman of courage, woman of grace, woman of resilience” he has ever seen who has been unwavering despite challenges.
“I have not seen a woman going through a challenging time and be saying it will be okay.
“This fight is about 2023. When people do not see your future, they will not fight you, but when they see your future, they will fight you. Those who are fighting are seeing the future of the Liberty Party.
“This county, Grand Bassa County and the entire Bassa belt, yor open your eyes, yor open yor ears,” Dillon rallied as the crowd cheered on.
The senator also took some time to speak about the place of Cllr. Charlyn Brumskine, the daughter of Cllr. Brumskine, founder and first political leader/standard bearer within the party as there seems to be some controversies regarding her involvement with the party and the relationship with some persons in the leadership of the party.
“The people who are deliberately not here are not for us, they are not for us. We are here to reconcile; we are here to rebrand, but we are not here to compromise, and we are not prepared to compromise.
“This party, this political leader, Senator Kaipay, the entire party, nobody is against Charlyn Brumskine. We want to take Charlyn from the welcome gate to bring her to Buchanan City led by the Political leader, Senator Lawrence, Jacob Smith, Jonathan L. Kaipay, and if the need be, if Charlyn will allow her big sister to fix things, we can take her to Buchanan from the welcome gate.
“But you have got to be clear, just the way the sun is shining and the light on like this. Let the people see what you are up to. You can’t be here and there”, Dillon said.
Among other things that were said by the Senator, probably the talking point that many might have carried home was his statement about the crucial role the Bassa people will and should play in the ensuing 2023 general election, which some pundits suggested could be making the case for Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
“In this 2023 election, we will decide the direction of this country.
“The people say Bassa people don’t like to vote for their own people and that was why Brumskine did not win votes in the country. They say the other county people can vote for their own people plenty.
“If you get President from this county, ehn dah everybody will be coming here; ehn if you have VP from this county here, ehn dah everybody will be coming to meet the VP, ehn all the people can buy the small, small market them, ehn all the small small community can start developing?
“When the time comes, we will come back here to say this time around it will not happen”, he said amid thunderous cheers from the audience.
Senator Jonathan Kaipay speaking later went even blunt about a person of the Bassa extraction taking a prominent leadership position come 2023, stating that for a long time the Bassa people have been supportive of other people to clinch leadership positions in the country.
“The Liberty Party is ready, the Bassa People are ready, we have been carrying “Coo” ( a collective work force on farms) on other people’s farms, this time around, I can assure you that we are ready for our “coo” in 2023.
“We want to make sure that the “coo” will brush our farm too and the person who will lead that “coo” is Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence”, he said amid cheers from the people.
He praised her colleague for the sterling leadership exhibited over the period, stressing that her quality exhibited shows how far a representative of women can make a difference in politics.
“You have shown us leadership just like Brumskine in 2017, when we stood by him and we will also stand by you and support you.
“The reason we are going through this turbulence of the legal battle is because the Liberty Party is a good player. The reason why we are going through all this is because our political leader is a great leader.
“We will be with you until the logical conclusion of everything”, he said.
