MONROVIA – On the occasion of the nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ, when Liberians are accustomed to sharing food and gifts with their neighbors and with those in need during the festive season, the Standard Bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) and Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander B. Cummings has enjoined Liberians to remain cheerful givers, even as they face difficult economic circumstances where many families are struggling to make ends meet, with rising food prices, high employment, very low wages and inconsistent salary payment for those who are employed.
Expounding further on Liberians’ abiding faith in Christianity whose tradition is indeed an embodiment of the Christmas spirit, as symbolized by the wise men who brought gifts to celebrate the birth of Christ, Mr. Cummings noted that the act of giving among Liberians is however not just limited to Christians.
“This spirit of generosity and sharing is something we see all across Liberia – regardless of religion, ethnicity, economic status, or gender,” Cummings stated, while noting the dire economic circumstances that now compel the many Liberians to be reduced to beggars instead of givers.
“Rest assured our country will not always be this way,” Cummings vowed in his 2022 Christmas Message to Liberians.
“As we enter 2023, we remain resolute to deliver the change Liberia deserves. The kind of change that translates into improved livelihoods for ALL Liberians. Who you know or do not know should not have an impact on your ability to provide a decent life for your family.
“Our commitment is to transform the Liberian economy, to make it easier to do business, to empower Liberian entrepreneurs, and to invest substantially in education and skills training in order to create the kinds of high-paying jobs that will ensure better livelihoods for all Liberians.
“And so, even as we face these extreme hardships, let us continue to pray for peace, unity and stability in our country. For no matter how long the night, the day is sure to come. Change is coming very soon.
“On behalf of my dear wife Teresa, my family, and the CPP, I wish you and your family a joyous, peaceful and blessed Christmas celebration,” Mr. Cummings enjoined Liberians.
