Cummings Expresses Sorrow on Vessel Mishap -Wants Govt. to launch investigation

The Political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander B. Cummings has expressed sorrow over the news of distress to the vessel NIKO IVANKA which was bound for Harper City, Maryland County.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the vessel’s crew and the passengers onboard as we pray for the total success of the rescue operations. We commend the rescue of some of our citizens so far and our prayers are with those yet to be rescued”, Mr. Cummings said in a short statement issued in the wake of the reported mishap involving the vessel.

He called on the government to investigate what seems to have been an avoidable incident and ensure that anyone found culpable of negligence faces the full weight of the law.

It can be recalled that the news of mishap of the vessels was received with apprehension and rescue workers were said to have been mobilized to get the stranded crew members and passengers on shore. The latest news as of last night said 11 of the 18 occupants of the vessel were rescued while rescue work was continuing to the 7 persons on shore.

It was reported that 9 teachers who were taking the 3rd and 6th graders examination papers to the Maryland were said to be on board. It is not known if some of the teachers were among the 11 persons rescued so far.
