Criticisms abound and opposition voices echoes across the country. Protestation heightened while irking activism seems to bewilder the ruling establishment. In the wake of these, set in an order from authorities of the University of Liberia banning student politics. The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC), one of the consciences of society has been watching these developments as counterproductive to the growth and progress of the country. Amidst these controversial indecencies, the President of the LCC, Bishop Kortu Brown, has called on the Liberian Government to exhibit some level of tolerance in handing issues with oppositions and other pressure groups in the country, The ANALYST reports.
Bishop Kortu Brown, the overseer of the New Water in the Desert in Brewerville, is encouraging the Liberian government to welcome opposition views and work on some of the criticisms, something he believes will bring development to Liberia.
According to Bishop Brown the CDC led government enjoyed 12 years of criticism in opposition and they should afford others the opportunity to express their opinion on issues of national concern.
“The CDC was in opposition for twelve years and they enjoy this privilege and that’s others right, you can’t take this from other group or person.” Bishop Brown further stated that there should be more dialogues in the country which according to him will bring better understanding.
“What we can appeal for is more dialogs to be able to bring about some understanding”
The LCC President has however called on both the government and the public to calm the tension and ensure that the country is peaceful. He encouraged everyone to come together to reason as one in other to safeguard the peace that we have enjoyed for 13 unbroken years.
Bishop Kortu Brown also stated that Liberian should bear in mind that whatever we do should contribute to building the peace and stability in the country.
The Liberia Council of Churches President has however expressed dissatisfaction over the decision of the University of Liberia administration to suspend student-based politics on the campuses of the University.
It can be recalled the university Administration suspended all political gatherings on the campuses of the university without stating reason(s), but it is believed to be the student political groups’ frequent disruption of classes.
The Council of Churches President further explains that the university should go in consultation with the students rather than creating tension, something he referred to as having the propensity of dangling the peace of the country.
Bishop Brown has however called on the students to avoid any act of violence and behave like students and protect the peace which he referred to as their future.
Meanwhile, Bishop Brown called on all Churches in Liberia to pray for the nation regardless the challenges and he expressed his commitment to remain steadfast in praying for the country.
