“Your Word Is Your Bond” -Charlyne Hails Partisans for Standing by CPP amidst Tribulations

MONROVIA : Grand Bassa County District #3 legislative aspirant Cllr Charlyne Brumskine, whose name has topped the listing of personalities that could become running mate to Collaborating Political Party (CPP) Standard Bearer Alexander B. Cummings, has hailed partisans of the CPP for living by their words, because they understand that one’s word is a bond, and that contractual agreements should not be prematurely terminated.

Making special remarks at the just-ended first National Convention of the opposition CPP in Ganta City, Nimba County on Saturday, May 13, 2023, Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine said she was rising to the occasion to speak not in her capacities of being an eminent stalwart of the Liberty Party; neither was she speaking as an aspirant for Grand Bassa County District #3 Representative post, but rather, as the daughter of the founding father of Liberty Party, and the hero of Grand Bassa County, Counselor Charles Walker Brumskine.

“Mr. Standard Bearer, I speak in a spiritual capacity on behalf of the late Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, and I hope to tell you that if my father were here, he would be proud. And the reason he would be proud is because the CPP stood together.

“Cllr. Brumskine left a legacy with those of us who are members of the Liberty Party, and it was, let your word be your word. He was a legal luminary who understood the importance of contractual agreements. He was a Christian who understood that his word is his bond.

“He would never have been happy with any premature termination of a contractual agreement. He would have said, we gave our word to the Liberian people, and we must stand by our word.

“Those of us who are here today, you have told the Liberian people that you are people of your words; and you have shown them that your yes is your yes, and your no is your no,” Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine stated proudly to rapturous applause from the multitude of CPP delegates that comprised representatives of constituent political institutions from the Liberty Party, the Alternative National Congress and other like-minded political parties.

Touching on the challenges that the CPP and its newly elected Standard Bearer must surmount to fix the country, Cllr. Brumskine recalled from whence the CPP came, recounting the cascading insurmountable obstacles the party overcame before reaching to the level of its first National Convention.

“Mr. Standard Bearer, we call you the fixer. But you are more than a fixer; because a fixer must be a fighter. And you have fought; you have been tested; you have been tried, and you have stood.

“I want to speak to you, the partisans of the CPP. I challenge you. There is no other political institution that has gone through what the CPP has gone through the past two years. No other political party has been tested.

“Mr. Standard Bearer, I was accused of selling my father’s party. I was accused of fighting everybody in my party. As you begin to fix, and as you continue to fight, your formula must be different, not business as usual; not the same old, same old Liberian politics. You will go to the mountains of Nimba County. You will go to the heart and soul of Grand Bassa County and other counties. And you will speak to every man, woman and child. There will be those who will say you cannot do, there will be those who will criticize everything including your choices. But we stand with you.

“We will change Liberia. I want you to know that the spirit of our heroes who passed are standing with us,” Charlyne Brumskine proudly intoned.

The statement from the renowned lawyer comes in the wake of widespread speculations that Mr. Cummings is on the verge of declaring Charlyne Brumskine as his running mate, which announcement many delegates and observers had anticipated to be made on Saturday.

But in a rather suspenseful manner, the Convention decided that the unveiling of Cummings’ running mate will culminate on May 27, 2023 at the candidate’s county of origin.
