The Liberian culture and tourism sector had long been under the Ministry of Information, with critics opining times without number that the embellishment had buried the visibility and impact the sector which it needed to be more contributive and meaningful to society if it stood along. That is now on the verge of being history because the Senate has voted to concur with the House of Representatives for the passage of an Act to amend Title 30, Public Authorities Law, Liberian Codes of Law Revised to establish the Liberia National Tourism Authority Act (LNTA).
The concurrence comes just a day after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai delivered his state of the Republic address which he named Tourism as a critical component of the Rescued Government’s ARREST agenda.
On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, members of the House voted to pass the bill and forwarded it to the Senate for concurrence.
The bill titled “An Act to Amend Title 30, Public Authorities Laws, Liberian Code of Law Revised, to Establish the Liberia National Tourism Authority” was passed following recommendations from the Joint Committee on Information, Broadcasting, Culture and Tourism, Judiciary, and Internal Affairs.
The bill was developed after a series of public hearings with stakeholders and experts in the tourism sector.
