NEC To Declare Twayen, Sokan winners Today -As Final Announcement of result imminent

MONROVIA: With just a few polling places left in the Senatorial bye election in Nimba County and 100% results declared in the District #1, Grand Gedeh County version, the National Elections Commission( NEC) is set to declare both Nya Twayen Jr and Jerry Garwo Sokan, both in an unreachable lead of the process, as the eventual winners of the democratic process conducted simultaneously in both counties on April 23, 2024.

Giving the breakdown of the outcome of the election in both Grand Gedeh and Nimba Counties, the Chairperson of NEC, Madam Davidetta Brown- Lansannah, said out of the 706  of a total of 736 polling places constituting 95.92% candidate Nya Twayen Jr of the Unity Party Alliance scored the highest number of voters at 66,516 votes followed by Representative Samuel G. Kogar of the People’s Unification Party (PUP)who scored 37,557 votes constituting 34.51%.

She said there were 110,087 total votes with 2,054 invalid votes.

From Grand Gedeh County, Jeremiah Garwo Sokan is expected to be declared winner given the way he campaigned and the votes obtained in the process.  He scored 3,168 of the available votes cast, constituting 30.4%, followed by Madam Amelia P. Beh, widow of the late lawmaker Erol Madison Gwion Sr who netted 1,371 constituting  13.03%.

So far, there is no indication that any of the contestants will register a protest against the results as they all seen to be making frantic efforts to move on with their respective lives after the election.

The bye election in Nimba county was triggered as the result of the election of then Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung on the ticket by the UP while the demise of Representative Erol Madison Gwion sr.
